I have found my dream ring with one exception. The center stone is not want I want. The other stones, setting, size, everything is perfect. I live in a very large city and have looked all over trying to find exactly what I want and this one ring is the closest to it.

My question is because I am concerned that the center stone has already been removed and replaced once (that I know of). How likely is it that this can be done again without damaging the prongs or integrity of the setting. I''m sorry if this is a silly question but I really have no idea. We are looking at spending a significant amount of money on a ring and I want to be sure that the ring is not damaged by doing this. This will be, I''m sure, my only upgrade as I''ve already been married a long time.

The ring setting is platinum with claw prongs.

Thank you for any insight you can provide.

The answer to this, oh so much, depends on the skill of the jeweler doing the work... Of more concern to me would be whether the seat cut for the original diamond(s) set in the ring is going to allow your diamond to be set properly. Why not just have the prongs replaced or order the ring new? Is the ring vintage?

is it possible to have the setting replicated so it''ll still be your dream ring but will be made to fit your diamond perfectly?
