How many times can a ring setting be used?

Original stone removed from a 4 prong platinum basket setting. If a temporary colored stone is put in the setting, can the ring setting then be used again if I decide to put another stone in later down the road. How many times is too many to use a setting/reset?

I am no expert. But I think it depends on your bench - how they remove the old stone and how careful they are. If they remove the stone carelessly then that makes it harder to re-set another stone. I have used settings at least twice and have used pre-loved ones too. Often my bench has to redo the prongs and work some on the setting. But it is not that expensive. And you want your stone safe in the setting. So yes, you can use the setting more than once. And a good bench can do wonders with an old setting. They can clean them up and polish if you want. I love re-using settings and giving them a new home.
