Thought this would be a fun one! ;) I'll start:

I've had, gosh, 7 resets, and counting! The perfect setting eludes me. As far as upgrades go, I've had just one.

How about you?

Well, I was engaged with ring 1. Then my gma passed away and I got her ring which became ring 2. I had the setting fixed but the plat was VERY VERY SOFT and within a year and a half the prongs were unfixable. The ring had to be re-made. So, instead I stuck it into a temp solitaire (ring 3). I still have no idea what I want to do with it. Sometimes I love it as a solitire, sometimes I want a huge ass halo 8) and sometimes I miss the 3 stone. But, eventually I will have ring 4. As far as ring 1... I am thinking about resetting that too.

Original sapphire (2006), first RB diamond (2008), upgrade 1 (2009), upgrade 2 (2009), upgrade 3 (2010), sold upgrade 3 (2011), first OEC (2011), sold first OEC to my mom's fiance, upgrade OEC 1 (2012).

Settings, only what was cheapest. I have yet to invest, but would like to soon.

2 upgrades (from my original diamond) and 2 resets, My mom also gave me 2 diamond rings (1.57ct, and 1.12 ct), which I reset into platinum. One I gave back to her, and the other I wear as a pendant.

First stone, .5 now a necklace. Then a .91, then a 2.51, but I've had two settings with the 2.51, one from Blue Nile, the other Doron Isaak. Fairly certain I'm done now. Definitely done with the size of the stone, but if I hit the lotto I may change the setting again. ;-)

1 upgrade stone from .33 marquis to 1.06 PR and reset on 20th anniversary.
Purchased 2 more side stones and then reset this year to a 3 stone.

Original wedding band is still worn every day ( :praise: ) and original ering is back in the safety deposit box.

Wore original 1 ct. solitaire for 30 years, anniversary 1.63 ct diamond (2006) had cheap temp setting, H Levi setting, Leon Mege setting, selling that one and getting 1.58 G VS1 in Vatche Tiffany repro probably next week. My hope is for that to be my final e-ring, and future diamonds will be for new rings!

DS, are you giving up on an AVC or AVR? Or do you still plan to get one as a RHR?

HI:

Please also include in the time frame you did the resets: during engagement, while married...in how many years.

1 upgrade for 20th anniversary. Married 26 years.

cheers--Sharon

No, I am not giving up. I just couldn't resolve not having a rb for my primary e-ring as I have had one all these years. But I definitely hope to get either an AVC or AVR, or both if I can afford it! I would have considered an AVR for this ring, but they just didn't have any the right size. The 1.29 F AVR is a gorgeous stone, but I was afraid I'd be sorry if I went down that much in size.

2003: First diamond ring. .50 Leo. I still have this diamond, but it has been re-set several times.

2004: Engagement ring. .80 Leo set in a custom setting from the maul. There are pics of it on here somewhere.

2010: Sold .80 Leo to a local jeweler and "upgraded" to a .84 H&A. Started with a repro Vatche RC setting in YG and then changed that for the same setting in WG.

2011: Upgraded .84 H&A to a 1.22 antique cushion from the same local jeweler. Used the same repro Vatche RC setting, but swapped the 6-prong head for a basket that fits the cushion. LOVE IT  I want to get sidestones someday and then be done.

Not including the Tiffany's fiasco, my first Star ering was reset 6 times before it was finally done right, and then it got stolen. This new star was an inadvertent upgrade (so far my first/only) and this stone has been reset now 3 times, probably soon to be a 4th, unless you count all four attempts Vatche made as separate resets, in which case 7 times in 2 years. All of my resets have been due to poor benchwork.

Engaged in 2005 with 1.7 G/VS1 EC.

Upgraded to a 2.1 G/VS1 EC in 2009 (2 yrs after wedding). I don't think I will upgrade the size of the stone again (unless I change to a different shape, but still dont think I will). I will definitely be changing settings at some point though. Right now my stone is just in a plain solitaire temporary WG setting because I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. Hopefully someday soon!!! :))

Engaged in 1983 with a small thin band of terribly cut rubies and diamonds, wore that with my original wedding band 6mm two toned. Got married in 1984. Got a .18 round diamond for Christmas 1985 dont know the specs but probably SI2 maybe H or I...wore that one for years, with my original band. First reset was I think in 1991 I combined the 2 rings into 1 ring...wore that for years and I did get a new band to wear with that, a smaller channel set band, I think it is .30 of not the nicest diamonds, but it did sparkle, still have the band but I dont wear it. I still have the diamond, had it set in a earring for my hubby, the setting is sitting empty. Then I got my current princess I think in 2001 or 2002, I got a new band it was a ring wrap to wear with the princess and wore that for years till it tore up my prongs, so then I got my 5 stone that I wear with my princess, but now its tearing up my prongs, so now I the princess wear with a thin gold band.

I not had a reset for awhile, but I have a 30 year anniversary in 2014 so if I stay married then I will be resetting my rings..hopefully before then but we shall see how fast I can save the money up....I know what I want (more or less) and hopefully this will be the last time
My hubby just wants me to settle on a set of rings and then leave them alone...he thinks I am nuts for keeping changing my rings.

0 :)

No resets. Working on my first upgrade, however, from Husband & ering 1.0 to Husband and ering 2.0. :wink2:

Fun topic. I wore my original ering, ring guard and wedding band for 14 years without an upgrade. Then I got a diamond anniversary band to wear with the wring and ring guard. My next upgrade was a 1/2 ct diamond with a new matching wedding set. I missed my anniversary band so about a year later I moved my diamond to a new setting and got an anniversary band to go with it. My next upgrade was to a 3/4 carat diamond that I put in a solitaire and got a thinner anniversary band. I still have those rings but upgraded to a 1 ct diamond.

2004: 0.47 RB 14k with tapered baguettes
2006: married with 2 rings - both to wear on their own - Plat and Titanium, neither goes with engagement ring in looks or metal
2008: 0.30 OEC additional ring - often worn as engagement ring
2009: 3rd wedding band - can be worn on it's own or with engagement ring (finally!)

I have a couple of vintage wedding bands that I sometimes wear to stack.

I haven't upgraded or changed my setting at all, just added another wedding band, and a 2nd smaller fun ring.

August 2010 - engaged with a .51 G VS2 H&A set in a white gold solitaire
March 2011 - reset in a palladium solitaire

I'm done for now, but in a few years I definitely want a 2.5ct 5 stone !

Purchased EGL Diamond in July '10 RB- 1.26; G VS2
Engaged in December '10
Found PS Jan/Feb '11
Feb '11 - lost stone in setting took for repair and appraisal and found stone graded J - SI2 1.26 all measurements off... :errrr:
Feb '11 - traded up stone AGS000 1.30 G VS2 - and setting same vendor... and bought two eternity bands
Mar '11 - bought new setting from Sareen Jewelry placed AGS000 stone in the setting
July '11 -bought two new matching eternity bands from Sareen Jewelry to match wedding band better (not that anyone but me could tell)
November '11 - listed old setting and old bands BARELY USED with JbEG....

So I think that counts as One, Two, One...
Stone upgraded Once
Setting upgraded Twice
Eternity Rings upgraded Once

eeek.. it was a year of pain and living on PS

No resets, no upgrades! I should probably work on that, right? :cheeky: But seriously, I love my ring!

ETA-oops, just saw Sharon's request.

Engaged in 2007, married in 2009. (We started dating in 2003, though-we take our time!)

No Upgrades, nor are any planned. I am in the market for a Rhr. I've had my 1 ct Tiffany solitaire since 2007.

2007 - Engaged with Tiffany ring which went back to the shop within weeks as it was completely unsuitable as an engagement ring despite their advice that it was.
2007 - Had new ring made with another jeweller, perfect - married!
2008 - Lost e ring and replaced it with .50 oval solitaire, within months I realised that it just isn't my style and its no longer worn.
2008 - Found original ring during house move but first child changed my ring size and it no longer fits (nor is it sizeable)
2010 - Recieved my tranny wedding set as a 30th/2nd baby present.

So I make that 0 upgrades but 4 rings, although its hardly worth counting the Tiffany debacle.

First ering rec'd in 1998, was a .5 ct from Rogers' Maul. :nono: Second ering/wring (one 3 stone ring 1.07 ctw, no add'l band) in 2003 (maybe 2002, can't remember). Those were from my previous marriage and I never LOVED either ring sentimentally or otherwise.

First ering rec'd from my now DH in 2011, GIA .63 VS2/H EX/EX/EX in tapered cathedral w/euro shank, wband rec'd 2011, .44 (?) half eternity w/euroshank to match ering. I know it's small, and I know it's early in our marriage, but I honestly don't think I'll ever upgrade it. I love my ring and am far too sentimental about it! ::)

Fun topic!

I'll understand if you don't want to post about this but I'd truly like to know more. It just seems so ironic. I thought that was the thing they were most famous for- selling engagement rings.

Hi Danny, I don't mind at all. When we got engaged I wanted a reasonably wide band ring with quite a minimalist look. After a lot of looking around, I really fell for the Streamerica ring (not a typical engagement ring choice, but I loved it) with the matt finish which I planned to wear with a super thin eternity as a wedding band. When we bought the ring I asked about the finish and if it would withstand being worn every day. The sales assistant said it would be fine and I knew no different.

Within days the matt finish started to scratch off (as I now know it would do) and when I called Tiffany their response was that the Streamerica was an occasion ring and I could not possibly have been advised otherwise. I returned the ring to the store for 'investigation' and after a few weeks of me chasing for a response and requesting that they just replace the ring with the Etoile scatter set band they refunded our account with no warning. Days later I received a letter advising what they had done, no apology or explanation.

Not everyone I spoke to was unhelpful, some were very nice but ultimately on this occasion the aftercare was laughable. I'm not saying I would never shop there again, but it did take the shine off of the announcement when there was no ring to show off. And I don't feel too badly as I went off with a pad and paper and designed my own ring which was a lovely experience.

None.

P.S. We picked it together so there was no way I would not like it. =)
