How many ideal scope images will JA send you?

They told me the limit is 3, what happens if I get the 3 and don''t like any of the 3.

Will they send more?

TIA

I''d ask them. I don''t know, but have wondered this myself.

Abe,

Since we don''t charge to take the images, we''ve had problems with customers requesting a dozen or more idealscopes. We just don''t have the manpower to take that many photographs, so as a matter of practicality we''ve set a limit of three.

If you ask for a fourth image do we tell you to hit the door? No, not usually. But when someone gets up into the 5-6-7 range we have started to say "no".

I''ve thought about offering the first three free, then charging $25 each after that. I think that is fair, but would welcome any thoughts on the subject.

Wow, the man himself!

$25 each sounds a bit high, especially if something was wrong with the diamonds in the first 3.

I think an additional 3 at no charge would sound fair, but make the customer say what is wrong with, or what he/she didn't like about the first 3.

Then after those it would make sense to charge.

Or another way to do it would be a $25 charge each after the first 3, but credit that back if they buy a diamond from you.

I guess it depends on the size of the diamond too, you'd probably be more likely to provide more images to someone wanting a 2 carat diamond, than someone wanting a .2 carat.

I know that the 3 limit is costing you sales with fancies.
I think a better strategy would be limit it to 2 at a time and after the first set your sales person reviews why the first 2 were rejected and helps narrow down the next 2 if 4 don''t do it then bring your gemologist in to help narrow it down further and or do a hands on review of one if it looks promising.
This prevents the shotgun approach while providing great customer service to your clients.

How to approach a customer who wants/needs more than 3 idealscope images should be taken on a case by case basis. What if the stone is sold after the customer decides (s)he wants it? There are many reasons why a person may need more than 3 different images. Maybe a cap of 5, then after that a fee for each image. Also, when does the number of images reset? 3 per year, 3 every 6 months? These are all things to consider.
