How many did you try? We loved the lady we went to today (the good part of my day, yum!

) and I am wondering if we even need to try anywhere else? I''ve tried a few of the others at bridal shows and know the prices of the ones I haven''t tried are higher than the lady we met today for about the same quality!

How did it go? What are you leaning towards? I need pictures of your inspiration! And how much is she charging per piece? And give me any details you think I might be interested in!

And how was it having cake for breakfast?

ETA: And can you believe that we probably won't have cake at our wedding? Hahahahahaha!!!!

Haha it was interesting, but still yummy!

She charges about 3.50 a slice which I consider pretty cheap! It''s buttercream, but I mean..there''s much higher even around here.

Here it is! Rose Garden Cake We''re doing 3 tiers instead of 2..sorry we''re ruining the design, lol. I also want the flowers to be shades of pale pink. She''d be putting some sugar flowers on the top.

Flavors..we''re thinking vanilla buttercream with "yellow" cake and a strawberry meringue buttercream filling as the bottom layer, middle layer we''re not sure..but the same thing except maybe the lemon curd as the filling..and top layer we want to do the same as bottom or some kind of chocolate.

For the groom''s cake! Chocolate w/ chocolate, yum!

How can you not have cake at your wedding?!

$3.50 a slice is not bad at all. I start charging at least $2 a slice--for friends. With every add on it gets more expensive. So not bad at all!

You''re not ruining the design of the cake by having 3 layers instead of 2! Silly goose! Adding on layers is just increasing the size of the cake, that''s all. Now if you showed me a picture of a cake with flowers on it and square tiers, and said, I want this, but I want stars instead of flowers and round tiers--THAT would be ruining the design--actually it''d just be basically making up your own design!! Which is what a wedding cake should be all about anyway!

I think the flavors sound great--I heart lemon curd in cake--so yummy!

As for the no cake thing--It''s still a possibility, but it''s not something I HAVE TO HAVE, you know? When we were thinking about getting married here, I was going to make it myself (bottom layer--yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting (pretty well liked), middle layer-hazelnut cake with hazelnut frosting (my choice), top layer--beer spice cake with cream cheese frosting (FF''s)) and do who knows what for decorations. But when we decided to get married in Vegas (I talk as if I''m engaged and it''s a done deal already--whatever!) I''m not going to try to take over a kitchen there, and I''m DEFINITELY not going to try to ship it or bring it with me. So depending on where we have our "reception" (dinner at a nice restaurant on the Strip) if the pastry chef wants to make a very small cake (<20 people), I''m cool with that(picking a flavor would be a PITA though), but I''m good with just having some plated desserts too.

We tried three.

My husband has a friend who owns a bakery, and he suggested them. I was a little wary, so I made appointments at two other bakeries, which we tried first. Then we set up a tasting with him.

We went with him hand-down for a number of reasons. First, we described what we wanted and he made fantastic suggestions. Second, he knew I worked the day he was having a tasting... so he baked us four separate mini-cakes of the flavors we wanted to try and let my husband pick them up and bring them home! he later apologized for the fact that "they weren''t very pretty" (he only put a single layer of buttercream) but goodness, to go through that trouble for us! The other bakers didn''t even ask us what flavors we wanted to try... the first gave us a tasting of five flavors that they give everyone, and the second just gave us a piece of whatever they were making that day! We told them we wanted chocolate cake with a fruit filling for the wedding, and neither one of them had any chocolate cake samples at all! They wanted us to book them based on flavors that we didn''t even want!

So we absolutely went with my husband''s friend, and our bottom tier (the one we cut and the only one we got a bite from) was actually chocolate with a cherry filling... it was a combination that never crossed our minds... but HE suggested it! He really went above and beyond for us. (Not to mention he was way cheaper... three-tiered cake for $250, when the other bakers quoted $650+!)

I think that if you''ve found a bakery you love and that is in your price range, there is no need to continue shopping around. You can check that off the list! YAY!

We tried 3--I have to admit that cake tasting was my favorite part of wedding planning. We knew what we wanted the very first time we went to a cake tasting at our favorite bakery, but continued trying a few others and even went back to the original bakery again because hey, why not? We enjoyed it and just wanted to be extra sure.

1. We found what we loved, the price was great, and we went with it! If you love it and the price is good, don''t stress yourself out!

We only tried one. In fact, we didn''t even have a tasting. She was the cake lady my grandmother and all her friends used, so I''d had her cakes lots of times and went straight to her.

I''d say that if you''ve found one you love, why go running around trying other places.

We are going to be trying 3. Our reception includes $X credit for a cake at our choice of 3 bakeries. We will probably go sometime in January. I can''t wait!!

I only checked out the one I knew I wanted to use. It is a local trademark, and it was my favorite place to get cakes growing up, so it wasn''t a difficult choice for me.

We just used our caterer, not sure if you want to go that way since you have found a place you like, but it was just so much cheaper. He did not charge a plating fee, and the cake (for 250 people) was under $300 (I paid $20 for the flowers on the cake). We had groom''s pie, which turned into cobbler in sheet form to stay cheaper. Oh, but DH and my mom weirdly we went to tastings for fun to bakeries we were not going to use and they knew it, now I know why some places charge for tastings.

Just wanted to say thanks everyone and we''re going to be sending the contract out tomorrow! We decided to go with this bakery, I am excited!
