I shipped out a diamond from PA to WA last friday by Priorty mail with registered mail service, the system shows the expected delivery date was Dec 12th, but I heared nothing by now, neither any update from online tracking.
I amn't familar with USPS mailing system at all, and called USPS 800, but they had no clue either, just let me wait. I am so worried if it got lost. There is no further tracking information posted online expect it was accepted in Dec 9th 2:26pm.
Anyone has some experience with USPS for shipping a diamond? how long usually take?

Unknown,

There is no such thing as Priority mail with Registered service. It's one or the other, but you wouldn't be the first person to get charged for both (or think you were getting both). If your tracking number starts with "RR", it's registered.

That being the case, figure 7-14 days and don't be worried - it'll get there.

Yes, registered mail will probably be slower than usual at this time of year and particularly going from one coast to the other. I'd give it another week before checking again.

Really. The cashier at the Post Office should not have keyed both services on the package. You could probably go back and ask for a refund for the Priority service part of your receipt.

Registered mail is for valuable items that require more insurance than regular priority mail or items that you want greater security for such as an heirloom that can't be replaced with insurance. It requires a signature for every hand that touches the package. The package has to be taped a certain way and they stamp around it to prevent tampering. It is under lock and key some of the time. It is not the same as priority mail and it doesn't matter whether it is in a priority mail box or not. It will still take the same amount of time to get there regardless. I do think they were in error to charge you for priority mail.

thank you JA,DS.

Here is the info from USPS:

Registered Mail provides maximum protection and security for valuables. It provides the sender with a mailing receipt and a delivery record is maintained by the USPS. A record of mailing is maintained at the mailing Post Office.

Registered Mail is available for items paid at Priority Mail and First-Class Mail prices. It may be combined with COD, Delivery Confirmation, restricted delivery, return receipt, or Signature Confirmation. Postal insurance is provided for articles with a declared value up to a maximum of $25,000. Only items with no declared value may use registry service without insurance. Handling charges apply for articles valued over $25,000. Registered Mail must be presented to a retail employee at a Post Office or a rural route.
