I''m already talking about upgrading I''ve only been engaged 6 months. FI said i could upgrade on our one year anniversary.

I love my e-ring, but i''m obssesive about the clarity.

He said i could upgrade to better clarity on our one year anniversary.

Am i the only one who considered this?

About five minutes...

Just kidding. I actually was thinking upgrade before mine was even delivered and on my finger.

Your ring is GORGEOUS!!! I luv it luv it luv it! When you posted it on the SMTR thread, I showed it to dh and he got a little scared

Right now I have a 3.11ct, Round Brillaint, H, VS2, H&A from Whiteflash. Since I got it (a little over a year ago now) it''s been in a 6 prong solitaire setting. The dreaded DSS set in at the same time I started coveting the three stone ring of a friend, Soooo, it''s back at WF right now getting two friends (two side stones) and a new custom setting.

But the really sad thing is, I''m also thinking about what I can do with it again in five years or so.

I don''t think it''s bad. I think it''s just a hobby. Albeit a very expensive one. But is it really any worse than guys who like to go to the track (at least we have soemthing left to show for the expense), or expensive cars or golf at a different course every weekend?

There''s something really satisfying about the "hunt" for just the right stone, which takes patience, perseverance, and some knowledge of geology, physics (light refraction), and geometry (all those angles). Then we get to express our artistic longings by putting together JUST the right setting to show off "the precious", and then, when you get the box in the mail........oh my, the anticipation......the satisfaction.....sliding that ring onto your finger and having it blaze alive with sparkles and color.......oh!! (I think I need a cigarette...).

And then, the compliments of friends and strangers, the surruptitious glances at your hand from store clerks and jealous neighbors, the knowledge that you probably have one of the nicest stones/rings on your hand in your whole town/city/where ever you live. Can any one really expect us to put so much energy and adoration toward the creation of something so beautiful, and then one day, just stop? What are we supposed to go spend all of that energy and attention on once the ring is done and on our fingers?

I think, for me anyway, I may never be done. I may be very satisfied with my Ering for years at a time, but there are earings, right-hand-rings and pendants to work on. Then, there are gifts for family and friends. I''ve even told my dh to have any friends who are thinking about getting engaged to give me a call so I can help out in the process. At least I can get the vicarious thrill again... (a little sad and pathetic, I know, but still really fun!).

So, in short, no, you are not alone. It''s so nice to have been able to find others who share the same passion. Imagine how much we''d be suffering without the internet to connect us all?

Please post and let us know what you do with your ring. Can you refresh me on the specs? And where oh where did you get that scrumptious setting? How did you know what specs to go by for a good radiant? Man, that thing is just on fire in your pics.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Best,
LizzyD

lizzy you''ve made me feel so much better! thank goodness i''m not alone. i was starting to feel like a spoiled brat;)

I''m wont be upgrading until our one year anniversary and the wedding isnt until august of 07 so i still have quite a bit to wait before i can upgrade to a VS1 clarity stone.

Here are my specs

2.87ct Radiant
I color
SI1 clarity
Depth 62.1%
Table 65.%
Polish/Symetry: very good/very good

The setting is my pride and joy. I fell in love with 3 different settings and decided to combine the aspects that i loved about each of them.

As far as good specs for a radiant go...PRICSCOPE is a god send. I would never have known where to start without them.

Thanks so much for the compliments.

My first upgrade was after 4 years, and I just upgraded again after 2 1/2 years. 6 months sounds a bit short, do you have a visible inclusion?

your setting looks pretty unique, i''d be afraid of having to find something that would fit in the same setting without visible signs of ''i had to pry this stone out and get a new one in'' kind of thing. esp if it''s a halo....aren''t they made to fit the stone specifics?

we have lots of upgaders on this forum, the reasoning is never the same from one person to another (well typically) but if you don''t have a visible inclusion and can''t really find it with your eye, i wouldn''t worry so much about clarity. if you can see it and it bugs you that is one thing, but otherwise i wouldn''t throw money into the stone just to say you have a VS1. but that''s just me!! esp if you love your stone otherwise in terms of color, cut, size and all that, it may be harder to find an ''upgrade'' kind of stone in that cut....it''s not like a RB where they are typically easier to find.

the ring looks very nice in your avatar!!

the inclusion is visible to me and i really feel it will drive me crazy within time. everyone says i''m crazy, but i could point it out in the dark with a match.

Maybe i''ll grow accustomed to it and it wont bother me so much in time.
