How long before shrinkage set-in?

Today when I was paying the bill for my dental surgery I was definitely NOT trying to show off my ring in any way and the person behind the desk at the periodontist screamed out "Oh my merciful mother of god!!!" (Direct quote.) And I though, I must be bleeding in some horiffic way (not that I could feel it with my face all numb), but it was just my ring she was looking at. I actually took it off and gave it to her to pass around the office while I finished the paperwork. ANYTHING to get the hell out of there.

So maybe it''s not as small and I think, LOL...

It starts very innocently...upgraded stone, etc...then new this, nicer that...like once you redecorate one room in your house you look around and think, ugh, the rest of the house looks like crap now!

I wear a ring size 4.75 and I always thought a one carat RB would be the BE-ALL to END ALL, and it was ALL I aspired to. When I finally got my diamond, we splurged and got a 1.53. It was gorgeous and looked big for... oh, a few days! But the darn thing started shrinking before my very eyes... it was almost entirely gone (all but a SPECK!

) so I upgraded to a 2.36 RB.

It is shrinking, too... but THANKFULLY not quite so fast! It's ridiculous and I know it, but I can't help it! I now aspire to a 3+er, but if the darn thing's gonna fade away on me like the other ones have - geez louise, what's the point??!!

My dh rarely wins an argument with me!

I left my e-ring home when we went on our honeymoon for a week. When I put her back on it she looked HUGE. I suggest that before making any big decisions (unless you have DH''s support of course!)

My married friends tell me women loose common sense when they get married. So, you might be loosing it and thinking your diamond is smaller, when in fact it''s still the same size.

Do you find yourself buying clothes you only wear once? No, not unless it''s an evening gown.
Or you can''t parallel park as well as you use too? Better, actually.
Or you own 100 pairs of shoes and say you don''t have enough? I don''t like shoes that much and while I have about 20 pairs, including 2 pairs of slipper, 4 pairs of flip-flops, and 2 pairs of running shoes, I mostly wear 3 pairs of shoes. The others live in the closet all the time.

As long as parts of my body don''t appear smaller to my future wife - I''m okay with it. Well, now that you mention it...

I''ve had my oval for about 3 months now, and it still looks approx. the same size to me... definitely not small, but definitely could be bigger!

We were originally deciding between a cushion and oval... a 1.5ct cushion would have probably ended up being closer to 7.5mm x 6mm face-up, while my 1.51ct oval is 8.58mm x 6.4mm... enough to make a difference. I knew I was going to be at least a LITTLE bit of a size whore, so we went with the oval... and I''m glad we did! I think my next step someday... when shrinkage really sets in... would be to change the setting to something a little blingier.

My FI, incidentally, still comments all the time on how huge the stone is... it is slightly larger than most in his immediate social circle, so I think he''s satisfied when he compares!

too funny, I was just telling DH last night that this ring I have, an amethyst 6x8, that he gave me for our 5th was what I''d aspired to over the years... in my *dreams* and I always figured the reality would be something smaller... but sometimes I''d toy with sticking an oval diamond in the setting of the ring... but the one I got just wouldn''t fit ROFLMAO!!!
