Here is the Idealscope...although it is a bit crooked

IS looks good, which is remarkable for that pavilion angle. Can you recheck with them if they give you the correct IS for the stone or the pav angle is correct. Is there a corresponding stone image to compare with?

Definitely check the image and the pavilion angle, if this is the correct image it looks good. With a pavilion angle that shallow ( assuming it is correct) you might want to check for obstruction - this is an effect where the diamond can visibly darken due to head shadow when viewed closely. The steeper pavilion angle might help a bit in this respect but it would be best to check.

I am waiting to hear back.

Also, whiteflash was helping me previously on this diamond as well...they said they saw it in person and was an awesome stone. The idealscope image they gave me was good too....but I erased the email on accident.

I''m trying to learn how to properly analyze Idealscope images. Doesn''t the lighter pink color around the center indicate light leakage?

ok, the pavillion angle is 40.7 degrees....is the stone still a bit strange?

Nope, it looks good then.

No thats a great angle!

oh crap...nevermind...they emailed me back saying it was 40.2 degrees

How come when it is 40.2%...the HCA score is better than with a 40.7 degree pavillion

At 40.2 degree, it should have serious obstruction issue, which should result in large area of black in the IS image, not what I am seeing in this IS image. HCA score is not meant to be use to pick stone, just an elimination too. So a lower score below cut off is not necessary a better performing stone.

Large area of black in the IS means that when you look at it closely, around less than 10inches away, it will look darken, as the black area in the IS image becomes black in real life, but from far it will still be bright and shinny.

If this is the actual IS of the stone, then it looks good.

I would expect that a 40.2 pav angle would show obstruction. This is an effect that can be seen in Idealscope or with the actual diamond caused by the shadow of the observer's head or body blocking light to the diamond, however if this is the right image for that diamond then I don't see any signs of it thus far.

What I would do is to ask their gemologist to check the diamond for obstruction for you, she should be familiar with this and know what to look for, if she gives it the thumbs up then ok.

Also the cut advisor is used for rejection not selection. The aim is to score below 2 in the majority of cases then evaluate from there with ASET or Idealscope images, a lower score is not better than a higher one.

i see...thanks for the explanations.

When I worked with Whiteflash on the same diamond, the idealscope image was also very good (like this one). They said it looked good too.

I am now revisiting the stone (now with james allen because I just stumbled on it on their site)

Make extra sure it is eyeclean to your standards, it is a big stone and SI2 clarity, if so then you should be set.

thanks for everyones help!

Most welcome, please post some pics of the completed ring when you get it
