New member here. I'm just started researching and hunting for rings. This is my first choice so far. I'd like to get everyone's opinion on the stone. What's good and what's bad about it? What would you recommend? Thanks!

1.2ct, I color, VS2, EX/EX/EX, Round brilliant

MEASUREMENTS 6.76 - 6.81 x 4.22 mm

FLUORESCENCE None
TOTAL DEPTH PERCENTAGE 62.2%
TABLE SIZE PERCENTAGE 56%
CROWN HEIGHT PERCENTAGE 15.9%
CROWN ANGLE 35.3°
PAVILION DEPTH PERCENTAGE 42.6%
PAVILION ANGLE 40.6°
GIRDLE THICKNESS Medium To Slightly Thick
GIRDLE FINISH Faceted
CULET None

What's good about it:
Reported angles work well together
Great color and clarity combo

What we don't know:
Whether it's eye clean. It likely will be, but even some VS2's have visible black inclusions under the table
How symmetrically it's cut. If it's not cut with great optical symmetry, some facets that make up the 35.3 crown angle might be too steep and cause leakage.

Next steps
There's a lot to like about the info you posted, but more info is needed. I'd suggest requesting an IdealScope image. Once it's on hold, post the link here, and PSers can pick a 2 other nice options to also get IS images on. Be sure to tell us an upper limit to price, as PS isn't always the best at strict budgets.

Thanks for giving your thoughts teobld!

The symmetry is listed as excellent. Is optical symmetry something else?

As far as an idealscope image, there isn't one available. What should I do?

Thanks!

Optical symmetry is different. What it comes down to is that even when sym = ex, one or more facets could be off enough to decrease the "light performance" on an otherwise well-proportioned diamond. Those angles on the report are averages of a facets.

Can't offer much help on what to do next...

Questions are whether you can see the diamond in person, what is the price, and what is the return policy?

If you can look at some Hearts On Fire diamonds in person, you could do that. Then look at the one you are considering and see how it compares.

I don't know how much research you've already done. but you can read some of the Good Old Gold articles on cut and minor facets, etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I need everyone's opinion again!

Do you guys think this 1.2ct will look too big on a size 3.5 finger?

I want the ring to be noticed, but I don't want it to look gaudy or fake.

A 1.2 won't look gaudy or fake. One of my friends has a 3 carat solitaire on a similar finger size. Doesn't look gaudy or fake. Just fantastic.

You could EASILY go up to 1.5 carats on a size 3 finger and look modest.
