If a band is too big, what does the jeweler do to size it down? I have had rings sized up, and they added metal to the band. Do they cut metal away if it is too big?

Yep.

Yes, it is cut away, then soldered back together.

Is this something that any jeweler can do without damaging the diamond, or is there some risk involved?

No risk to the diamond whatsoever if it is a plain solitaire.

If there is pave or stones around the band, then it gets trickier. A 0.5 size change is safe but more than that risks the diamonds on the band falling out. Laser is best for large changes in size.

Thanks Chrono...do you think the attached band will be fine? Do you know if WF does laser resizing? BTW, what does laser resizing involve?

How large/small a change in size will it be?
Did you purchase the setting from WF?
Does WF give you any sort of warranty on the setting? If so, doing it locally MAY void the setting warranty where in that case, I''d send it back to them for resizing.

It is somewhere between .5-1 size different. It''s a sze 9 now and I probably need an 8.5...maybe an 8. Diamond and setting was purchased from WF. I am not aware of any setting warranty...I will have to check in to that.

Hi ITR.

Please do contact your sales rep to discuss if you don''t mind. Work by an outside jeweler will void the warranty (from our FAQ).

Thanks for the info John...I will def. speak to my rep...if/when I do decide to get it resized, I will send it in to WF.
