How happy are you with your non-eye clean diamond?

Calling all owners with non-eye clean diamonds - I'd love to hear how happy are you with your purchase? Does the inclusion bothers you?

I've always had high clarity diamonds VS and VVS but in my latest purchased, I went down to a SI2 asscher as a compromise to get a bigger diamond. I won't necessary say I'm regretting my decision but I do find myself always hunting for the one inclusion which is visible.. I can see it approximately 10cm away

I had an SI1 EC years ago and although nobody else can spot the white inclusion, I could and it bugged me enough that I upgraded to a VS EC.

I'm still unsure if it bothers me - just that I've never had a stone with inclusions I can see It would mean paying almost double the price for a VS stone.. I'm thinking it would be money better spent on another diamond of a different cut - maybe a OEC?

For me, I can't do an included step cut. I'd be looking at VS2 at the absolute lowest. But I have hawk eyes and even in a RB I don't like most SI1s even if considered eye clean. This is why I don't wear step cuts. Can't afford a good one!

searching for a bigger diamond now n the other day i was looking at 1+ carat n the inclusion is very obvious. its right in the middle n i do have very good eyesight
my instinct is to scratch that diamond to see if its a 'cut' on the surface when i checked against their GIA cert, its where i saw it. the sa said its not that obvious... my hand is already liked stretched out n i can still see the line. if its at the side then maybe i won't but right in the middle of the diamond, i think its too obvious. i didnt buy because i told myself there's so many diamonds out there. why tight myself to one i am not happy right from the start

For me it depends on how big the stone is. The larger the stone the larger an inclusion can be to get a SI grade. I have a 5-stone ring with all SI1 stones and I can't see a thing. I have a 0.5ct stone with an I1 inclusion and I can only see the feather in certain light at a specific angle--so I rarely can even find it. But if I had a 3 ct asscher with the same inclusion it would probably be very obvious and bother me. Luckily for me I will never have a 3 ct asscher---with or without inclusions! Problem solved!!

I have enjoyed both, I love having a perfectly clear OEC (not lab graded but no visible inclusions found in any inspection). My old EC had inclusions that were white and never bothered me - I enjoyed the 'birthmark' aspect but could have found the same enjoyment in distinctive faceting. I wouldn't enjoy paying for clarity I couldn't see.

Speaking of step cuts, the emerald cut in my avatar is an SI1 from James Allen. On the video of the diamond I could see a small white speck but I'll be darned if I can even find it now that it is in the setting.

Small thread jack, but Quaddio I have long been an admirer of the beautiful ring in your avatar! I hope you won't think ill of me but, I have to confess that I bought an OEC from Love Affair Diamonds and sometime this year I want to find or have made a setting just like yours. If that's ok...

I am very lucky to have a ring and setting that are perfect for eachtoher and will never separate them. Now if only I would actually wear the ring - maybe once in the last year. I highly recommend the square picture frame setting style, let me know if you would like more photos / angles. I was thinking of having the ring repaired (prongs and one sidestone seem like they were previously redone with white gold when you look really really closely). I will stay tuned for your recreation thread to see how it turns out. Which jeweler will you choose?

Good luck with your project. I don't think you need anyone's permission to have your ring set exactly as you would like! Go for it.

I have a SI1 and at JUST the right angle in JUST the right light, I can see the teeny, tiny clear inclusion on the table. It doesn't bother me at all. Black inclusions would bug me though.

I had an 2.10c SI2 radiant with a white feather that was in the edge and went around the girdle of the stone into the pavillion. It did not bother me at all and did not affect the setting of the stone even though they had to "hammer/tap" small diamonds into the end of the prongs.

As my mother-in-law used to say..."won't be noticed on a galloping horse"!

Most will be eye-clean to anyone who is admiring your ring/diamond.

Another advantage is that they can't switch your stone with a CZ if you have to have your ring repaired. This happened to a friend of mine when she took her grandmother's ring in to be repaired....she didn't know till years later.

the only inclusions that would bother me would be black ones and those under the table.
As long as the inclusion under the table is small and white and not smack dab in the middle it would probably be OK too.

Just wanted a larger well cut stone...1.cut, 2. size, 3.color, 4. clarity...that is the order of importance to me personally.

I previously owned a vvs1 asscher because I was paranoid that I would see an inclusion. Later when I upgraded to a MRB I dropped the clarity an SI2, and I can only spot the inclusion when I view it through the pavillion or occasionally in a close up macro shot. I agree with DS that inclusions are much more easily detected in a step cut and I wouldn't consider purchasing another lower than a VS2. Brilliant cuts though, I feel need to be inspected and evaluated by the individual as the faceting, light performance and type of inclusion can have a huge impact.

The only way I'd be okay with an eye visible inclusion is if I could put a prong over it.

For a ring I would not go lower than vs2. For an earring I have an eye clean SI1. I can't really live with non-eye clean. I passed on a much lower priced stone that was not eye clean, even for an earring.
