Just wondering how far you have wondered from “home” over the years. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, moved to NJ, Wisconsin and now Chicago where I have been for the last 33 years. Only my MIL is left in Philly at this point so we rarely go east.

Wandered?
I have never 'wandered'.
I have only traveled.

"Home" is every place that I have lived ... so, what's the furthest I've lived from home?
Since I have always lived at home (wherever I live) the answer to your question is zero miles.

But if you were to ask what's the furthest my home has been (IOW I have lived) from where I was born, the answer would be 8,472 miles.

About 15 miles - moved from city to suburbs. It was a big adjustment for my parents even though it’s only a 20-25 minute drive!

Born and raised in Pittsburgh; moved to Oregon; moved to Texas; moved back to Oregon. I've been in Oregon 41 of the past 43 yrs.

Born in Germany, came to the US when I was 7. I consider home to be where my kids (10 and 12) are, so I am 0.0 miles from home ;)

Born and raised just south of Pittsburgh (That must be why I always liked you , Matata!)
Moved to Cleveland, now in Albuquerque.

My husband and I grew up about 5 miles apart. We live in the same town that we grew up in. Haven't gone far at all!

Home is where ever my wifey is.
I grew up about 5 miles from here and was born in a hospital about 5 miles away in a different direction.
Have lived in this general area all my life other than a few months out on the farm in ND and vacations and such.

Ridiculous! I'm now 4.5 miles from home. It wasn't to be closer - it was a great buy of a house.

I like the variety of replies. I am also interested in where people are from and so I feel disappointed when some people, out of a desire to remain anonymous which I can understand and respect, give less information than others! For instance, I didn't know that Matata and stracci came from Pittsburgh and its environs. I have never been to Pittsburgh, but my brother's family just visited there and talked about it and its features recently. Now I have something to put together.

I thought the question was amusing because this morning I am at a computer in the house where I grew up. I lived here between 1954 when the house was built and I am not sure when. I stayed home and worked the summer after high school, then moved to Boston. Then I moved back here because I found that not going to college had been a bad idea and I started NYU (going into New York City from here by train every day) in January of the next year. Then I moved into New York City.

I have lived briefly in other places. I own a house in Virginia with my husband and I lived there with him and my daughter for several years. I lived briefly in Paris. I went to school in Berkeley, California during two different summers. I have traveled. But somehow, although my husband and I owned several homes-all far nicer than this one- in Connecticut, I ended up back in this tiny house without a garage.

I am in southwestern Connecticut in Fairfield County. It is called The Gold Coast because there is a train line into New York City from here which makes it possible for people to commute to jobs in New York City while living here. My town has changed from being a small New England town to a bustling, wealthy hub of New York City over the years. It no longer has a pleasant, small town atmosphere where people all know each other. it feels like a gathering of people with BMWs; Mercedeses; and far more exotic cars. Since I have (more or less) remained here, though, it is still home to me.

Born and raised in the same town, still there now, although the next time we move house it will have to be elsewhere, as property is ridiculously expensive. And TBH, I'm not sure I like the place now anyway, not since it's had a shedload of new houses added and another several thousand still to come - it doesn't have that 'small town' friendly feel that it used to, it's a lot more anonymous now.

Born in London, and live in the 'Burbs about 30 miles from my birthplace. :D

2.5 hour drive.

Born in Hong Kong, came over here to attend school in 1979, and decided to make it my home the moment I stepped off the plane.
DK :))

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, spent 2-1/2 of my teenage years in Idaho (gee mother, THAT was a good idea... NOT) before going back to Pittsburgh to finish high school, came to Chicago to go to college at Northwestern and have been here every since (with the exception of several months I spent in Kansas City (gee Dee, THAT was a good idea... NOT).

Parents were born and raised in/near Ottawa Canada. I was a military brat and lived in 18 different cities/provinces/countries. I finally made it back to Ottawa about 19 years ago.

Born in New Orleans, same hospital as DH was born. DH and I grew up two red lights and two miles away from each other. Met when we were in high school.

Went to Tennessee. That is as far as I got. Moved back to Louisiana.

My mom and most siblings are still in the NOLA area, as are my aunts and cousins.

After Katrina, some of my aunts and uncles and cousins moved to Mississippi. Dh's cousins are in Mississippi, and his brother is in the New Orleans area.

My state (CT) is small so if you were born here and still live here even if you moved from one end to the other, you are never far from home.

That said I live 40 minutes from where I was born in Hartford and have never lived much farther away despite living in different towns and different counties.

Four countries & counting. Home is a distant chieldhood dream. Not sure I want another; at times, I have ...

Born in Sacramento, CA and lived most of my childhood on the ranch 40 miles north of there. Lived way up in northern Cali (gorgeous); Central Point, OR (nice place); Yakima, WA (yuck); and now live in the state that @Dee*Jay thinks is terrible. It's not. I love it. Beautiful mountains, gorgeous lakes, and nice people.

Geography fun. I was born in Ontario and live there now, but I live just over 1000 miles from my hometown. Ontario is huge. When I moved to the West Coast, I was 1600 miles from my hometown. So all the way across the country is only 600 miles further than in the same province but a different area.:read:

Born in San Francisco Bay Area. Lived in the east bay for 15 years. Moved to a Sacramento Suburb and I’ve been here ever since!

When you're thirteen and have always lived in a city, to be transplanted (for the purely selfish reasons of your mother -- but that's definitely a topic for another thread!) on top of a mountain it is indeed pretty terrible! But somehow I survived... :cheeky:

Only sometimes -- like when I get mad, ha ha!

But some of those Pittsburgh words work their way into my vocabulary every now and then... Like when it rains and then freezes over night -- Be careful driving, it's slippy out!

Born in Hong Kong, moved to UK briefly, then Germany, back to UK, then Australia before moving on to Singapore. Currently in Dubai. About to move again - it wil be London or Oslo in Norway or back ‘home’ to Perth, Australia. I love not knowing where I will be living or what I will be doing.

I would imagine it would be a shock for a city girl.

About 4 miles, lol. It's a 10-15 minute drive from my current apartment to my Mom's house. Long Island, NY.

Born & raised in Cheshire, UK. Moved to Wellington in New Zealand in my late 20's not long after my dad died, to try something different that he had previously encouraged me to do. Stayed for a few years, then back to my mum in Cheshire. Met my husband shortly after & now live 15 minutes drive & 4 villages away from my family home. My 2 sisters & brother also live somewhere in between me & mum in the other villages, so it's really nice & our children are all really close.
