... that is one foot high poop in two feet of snow?

Does the poo just come out, into the snow, and stay lodged in the snow 1 foot above ground?
Or do warm turds melt the snow and sink?

And is their human expected to reach down and recover it for disposal?
Or is the spring thaw a joyous time sprinkled with sidewalk surprises?

"Snow Won’t Melt Your Dog’s Poop Away, or Hide It, So Clean It Up"

"Unbeknownst to many, dog waste is more than just a gross and unsightly mess – it’s an environmental pollutant and a human health hazard. That’s because dog poop carries disease-causing bacteria and parasites that can be transmitted directly to humans and make them sick. Ringworm, roundworm, salmonella, giardia and E. coli are examples of such frequent inhabitants, all of which are commonly found in dog feces and are easily transferable upon contact. Roundworm, for example, is one of the most common parasites found in dog waste and it can remain infectious in contaminated soil and water for years.

Making matters worse, many of these waste-borne pathogens can survive in water, which means that as the snow mounds begin to melt away, bacteria and parasites living in the poop can spread, covering your yard and eventually making their way into local rivers, streams, creeks and other waterways.
The best way to keep yards, decks and sidewalks clean and safe after a heavy snow and a visit from a squatting pup is to scoop the poop into a bag and toss it out with the garbage."

Afraid to say that 'The warm turds melt the snow and sink'
..and every time I get the poop bags, do a hand scoop (with gloves on) , get it in the bag, and dispose.
You can actually see the steam. My furbaby has large ones if you can image.
LOL!! It's so delightful!! Ha ha

Well, first of all, your question cracked me up....Thank you for some humor. Much needed here.

I have a one and a half foot high dog, and got two feet of snow yesterday so can offer that my one and a half foot dog can't walk through two feet of snow. So I have to shovel a path for him. And then I do clean up the poop. This photo was actually before it stopped snowing so before the full 2 feet of snow fell.

@kenny , that is such a great question! I’ve always wondered about that….and I just assumed most snowy weather dog owners would have poopoo pads indoors or on a screen in porch where their dogs can do their business without freezing their little paws off! Do any of you snowy area dog owners have your dogs go on pads like that?

My SoCal born and raised pup hates the 2 weeks of rainy days we get here, I literally have to carry a giant patio furniture umbrella ☂ to shield both of us when he needs to go potty. It is quite a sight, and my neighbors call him Prince Ali, cos he has his personal umbrella bearer following him around….I imagine I would have to do something similar in the snow….plus carry a shovel.

I know some of you may also be curious about super hot climates…and how dogs do their business in 100F weather and 120F turf…..well, my husband puts up a pop up shade in our front yard so that the patch of turf under the pop up stays cool enough for his Royal highness Noah!

Carefully.

When we had short dogs, we shoveled a path for them.
The poo will stay on top of the snow until the snow melts.
By the way, my SoCal dogs adapted to NJ snow very quickly! Oh, that first storm they went running out, realized something different was happening and ran right back in, looking up at me as if to say "what the heck was that???" But they went out again, explored a bit and seemed to like it fine. Heidi is still kicking at 14, though she's less likely to venture down icy steps of the deck. Yeah, she does her business on the deck and we shovel it out for her.

We cleared a pathway for our dog to do his business. Then every day we would scoop up at the end of the day.

Another one who clears a path with a large square swath down on the lawn.

There have been a few times were she needed to go before we got to the path. She did actually just poo into the snow while I crossed my fingers it didn't come back inside stuck to her butt (it didn't). It was our yard, so we didn't clean it up right then... it got shoveled off to the woods when we did finally clear the path. I watched from the window, so I have no idea if it sunk or stayed suspended.

We live on a cul-de-sac and most of our neighbors have dogs. One year there were frozen poops everywhere along the circle... on the street, because the grassy areas were covered in too much snow for the dogs, I suppose. When the weather warmed, so did the frozen poo. It was so gross, either way (frozen or thawed). An email went around and some signs went up to clean up after your dog. It stopped after that, thankfully.
