How does this transitional look?

First off, I think you should buy together with the setting & stones.

In regards to the auction, I'd just call their bluff. Sounds like your husband already did, as you were typing this asking for advise instead of showing pics. A week or so after the auction is over, I'd casually stroll back in there and look at everything except that jewelry piece. Maybe let them tell you it's still available.

Take a peek, contain your smile, and then tell them you really did love that ring but bought another one. Place it down and slide it back. Maybe let them voluntarily drop their price to persuade you to reconsider. Ponder it. Tell them you don't really need it, but would give them $400 right then if they say yes; otherwise, you have a hair/nail/lunch appointment and have to go.

They'll probably cry a bit about how that is less than your last offer. I'd smile and advise them they might do better on an auction. Or wait they can wait another 6 months for someone else to make an offer and have $0 that entire time or they could have $400 right now. Make sure it's cash....four $100 bills. Place it on the counter and politely ask them if they are taking it or not because in 10 seconds you and those bills are walking out the door.

Hold to your guns. My guess is you'll end up with a ring for $400. :cool2:

The best part is you will have a great story to tell, and get to crush them a little for jerking you around to begin with. ;)2

What sledge said...it works. My husband had a pocket full of cash....literally, and went into the local lawnmower shop and offered cash for a zero turn mower he wanted. (We have two HUGE yards.) The young man said, "Cash?" and all my husband did was look at him and pat his pocket where the bank envelope was and $7,000.00 later, he was out the door with a $8,000.00 mower. That was the price, tax included. Play hardball with them....and I'd love to be there when you do.

See and this is what gets me, DH has $600 cash right in front of him and the guy just wasn't having it. DH was like, Someone puts money in front of me, I'm taking it!

Thanks @sledge, I am definitely going to look around to some other shops too, just to see since I have to wait anyways.

Two ways to look at this:

Option A
Assuming the $680 includes taxes, etc then there is only $80 difference between your ask and their ask. It's very minimal, and probably shouldn't stand in your way of getting something you truly want.

Option B
Clearly, these people are morons! You put real hard cash in front of them, and they turned it down for "what if" money. You've tried to be reasonable. But they've established the rules. So I would ask for the auction site and get in on the bidding action. Hopefully they don't have a reserve and you can pick it up for $200-300 total. But really, any number less than $600 and you win (and they still get to eat the auction fees ). Icing on the cake is you get to walk in grinning ear to ear and thank them for not taking your $600 you initially offered and then ask for your ring.

But I'm a guy and at this point, it's not about $80. It is about them being stupid and not taking a good deal. Your husband may share my sentiment that they need to be taught a lesson.

WTF????, how disappointing!
I sure am sorry @StephanieLynn. I know you had your heart set on that ring.
It sucks that they wouldn't work with you. I think you got good advice from @LorettaB and @sledge.
I would be tempted to boycott that shop.

You know what happens when you have a wad of cash in your pocket and are totally needing some jewelry feels? You go find some! One of these came home with me but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out which one :Up_to_something2:

The top ring is 1/3 of a carat center yellow and white gold

Bottom is around a carat from the 40's in white gold

I'm guessing the top picture.

You go girl! Screw those guys at the coin shop. They're not the only game in town.:angryfire:
The three stone! The three stone! I bet on the three stone.

@stracci2000, damn straight I don't need that transitional that badly. The place I did buy from treated me like a person, let me use his loupe and take as many rings outside (to see them in natural light) as I wanted. That's a person that wants to do business!

Awesome!! I love both of them! This...was the right move. One more "you go, girl"!:appl:

@natasha-cupcake, thank you so much! I can't wait to see what treasures you find Saturday. Even if you don't buy anything, take pictures so we can admire

@sledge, this is not meant to be sexist but women are much more emotional about purchases. We have to feel good about the whole experience and this just left a bad taste in my mouth, so I went with B.

Now funny thing is the guy from the coin shop just called me and gave me the "good news" that he was able to change the days for the auction from 30-10 so I could buy it tomorrow! Well I had to tell him we were so disappointed by his inability to work with us that we took our business elsewhere. He was shocked lol'. Never turn down cash on the table!

@LorettaB, I love that your husband got a good deal and $1,000 is awesome!

Touche! Great comeback. This guy just lost a good customer.
And deservedly so.

Some people need to be “taught” that cash really is king. I bet he was totally flabbergasted at your response. Good for you!! And I am loving both of those rings!!

I picked the three row diamond band! The three stone was super cute but the band was strange, it was almost like someone took an electroplated band and soldered it to the top. I was perplexed to say the least. Anyways I posted in SMTB this morning with lots of pictures. Thanks for all your support and help!

Glad to see you got some bling and was able to share a lesson to the other pawn shop. They were truly morons. Hope you enjoy the new ring!

Thanks @acv123, it's really their loss, if I had gotten the ring I would have felt off about the experience so it's better finding something mind clean.

Those rings can also be called illusion settings, I had not heard about miracle settings before so that is good to know!
