How does this stack up? Advice needed...

I would definitely choose H over I color. I had to go to I color for my current diamond due to that being the only choice in the size stones I was looking at, but my diamond stud earrings are ACAs and H color. I prefer H over I when I can have the choice.

I had the PS search open and there are no CBI H VS2 stones around 1.5-1.75. There is one WF one but it is well above what you were planning to spend.

My finger is 5.5 and I did have a 1.58 ct stone at one point in time. This size will look larger on her since she has a tiny finger!

Wow that does look pretty big... hmmm. Maybe the 1.58ct would be big enough.

how about this CBI??

Price is $16,900... would you go this over the wf ACA?

CBI and ACA are top of the line diamonds, absolutely. These stones are close enough to be a nice big pair of stud earrings! But I personally would choose the ACA at $16,080 if both are wire prices. I'd buy whichever costs less because they are both outstanding.

It is going to be so much easier for you to buy from someone who carries Vatche. If you really want the 1.7-1.8 range, there are a couple of really nice H color stones at ED. But it will be problematic to get the stone set since they aren't Vatche dealers and you aren't physically in NY to take the diamond somewhere to be set. Plus you'd have to insure it during all that process if the diamond vendor doesn't have it set.

It is really late here and I have to get a little sleep! But I am interested in your decision and will check back in tomorrow!

Awesome.. well im gonna try and setup a time to view here in texas.. I agree with the concensus that they are very similar in cut grade/accuracy.. does WF give discount for the setting if buying the diamond with them as well? or for the stone?

I am not sure about setting discounts. Do tell them you are a Pricescope member. And sometimes they have Valentine's specials so ask about that, too. Sheerah is usually who helps me there.

I own a Cut to Order CBI diamond 2.21 F-SI1 and can tell you several things.

First - I've compared that diamond to my 3.01 F-SI1 pear on overcast days where one can see the true body color and can say that YES, the does face up whiter (even though both are "F" colored stones) because the CBI is reflecting so much more light back to the viewer.

Second - Wink does discount Vatche settings when you also purchase a .40 ct or larger diamond from him at the same time (My ring is also a Vatche setting)

Third - Like your Rolex (I own an all 18K Rolex too) and Patek watches, you get what you pay for. Yes, CBI diamonds cost more than others, but that is because of the extra time and effort put into every diamond that Paul cuts. Until you have seen one live and in living color, you have seen nothing yet. And believe me, I've looked at diamonds since 1989 when I earned my Gemologist Diploma from the GIA

Fourth - if you don't see exactly what you want from the CBI inventory, you can commission a Cut to Order CBI Diamond to your specifications as I did. We even talked about how I didn't want skinny arrows, so they brought my stone in with LGLs of 77, just perfect for me between 75 and 80.

In addition to the 80% buyback policy, there is also a 100% trade up policy (that is a lot better than the must spend double the amount when I traded up to my pear with a local vendor prior to my PS days). I've known Wink for 10 years now and have bought several purchases from him. He's a good guy, 100% trustworthy, and just a pleasure to work with.

There is a thread on SMTB if you would like to see my cut to order CBI diamond.

Thanks for chippin in cflutist... and yes I saw the photos and videos.. fan fricken tastic. seriously impressive.. makes the HOF studs I got my GF look.. well.. rather ordinary. Have you seen the GOG Superior Cuts??? In the ASETS they look just as clean.. and they have 75% buy back which is very similar. 1.58 H/VS with setting is $1000 less that GOG 1.7 H/VS2... what would you do? I like the idea of the 1.7ct as it sounds much bigger.. and cut grade does look super ideal on the GOG stone.

Let me know if you've compared.. thanks a mill!

Really keen to hear comparisons on this as Im on the fence with size vs brand.. id rather save that $1k as budget has stretched from 16k to 18.5k or 19.5k.. but dont wanna have size regrets! Let me know!

I consider ACAs totally as outstanding as CBI. I also have had the pleasure of having a GOG superior Hearts and Arrows stone that had a helium scan to prove its exceptional cut. So really, all three are top of the line stones with great vendors standing behind their products. When I am searching for a stone, I look to see who has what in stock. If two have the same thing, I go with the lower price. When I was looking for a ring stone and stones for studs, I found one at GOG and the other at WF. CBI sells to brick and mortar jewelry stores and they are sometimes higher in price than the others. I do think their prices look more competitive now. However, I did not see an H VS stone in their inventory at your size and price point.

Thanks for that

How about this? 1.66 F/SI1... actually less than the 1.7 H/VS.. and its an F! I'd rather the higher color.. with the same size basically... can you look at that table and inclusion and tell me if you think thats eye clean from 6-8inches? I've requested from GOG... this is $500 LESS than the H/VS2.. and F would def. be noticeable difference in color.

What do you think?

It is certainly a beautiful stone! You'd have to ask them if it is 100% eyeclean from the top and the sides. The clarity plot looks pretty good but they'd have to have it in hand to see if there are any visible inclusions. If not, yes, F is going to be much whiter than H-I. But ideal cut stones in the near colorless range do tend to face up pretty white unless you hold a D color right up against them. My original diamond was F color, but when I originally came here to look for an anniversary diamond (gift from my husband but I am a researcher!), I went with G-H colors because I did want VS clarity and I had to balance all the C's including cost! But there is no doubt that F color is very beautiful! (I did look at GOG before but that was before I knew you'd consider SI1.)

Hmmm yeh I really do love the safety of VS2... uh this is so hard! Just when I think I have it nailed down! H/VS2 would be fine.. but F/VS2 would just be.. WOW! What does a 1.5ct F/VS2 run? I think id even give up some size for a F/VS2 I think
