Well, you'd have to have the very strong blue evaluated because it could have a cloudy effect on the stone in certain lighting. Do they have the stone in hand to evaluate that for you? Will they do an idealscope image for you?

What is your budget? You might be able to find something else without having to go down a half carat. You can stay at the same color and then go down to VS2 clarity which will help. I'll take a look and see what I can find.
 
Thanks for the reply DS.. Its an I color... and its 2.07.. its $15,800. My budget is around $15k+ 2k for the Vatche Setting.. but been looking at CBI stones around 1.6ct I/VS... and came across these stones at ED that seem MUCH bigger for less money.

They dont have it in hand.. it is a stone from India...

I just sold a GIA 1.70 HVS1 triple excellent with hearts and arrow and great ASET for 13.5k. Go for 1.70ish G/H vs1/vs2. Triple excellent for 15k or less with no fluoresence. It will be better investment. Also watch out for stones from india...ask and make sure theres no brown, milky or green tints. Where are you located? Ican check rapnet and find you local dealer
 
I would say that with the HCA score being above 2, it is too risky to consider without all the images and the evaluation for the fluorescence. I like fluorescence a lot as long as it doesn't make the diamond look cloudy. But you have to be careful when you get to very strong.

Guess what? I also have a Vatche setting from GOG, but my daughter has the Vatche Caroline! I love that setting and WhiteFlash carries it. In fact, that is where her ring came from.
 
IM out of Galveston but only in once a week on Sundays.. so doesnt really help.. I'd love to get to Whiteflash and see these stones but there not open on a Sunday. Also the reason I've leant towards GOG and CBI is there 80% buyback.. do you think WF might match this?

Hmm, I was thinking GOG has 75% buyback. That is where my ring diamond is from.

Why are you even thinking about buyback?

Reason I'm thinking about Buyback is we're both 28 and in a very good financial position now.. but 5-10years down the road if we need a large percentage of this money back.. its good to know its there. Worst case scenario.. I have no doubts about the girl in question :)
 
I will explain that even if you did have to sell the diamond for some reason, you likely could sell a top cut quality stone pretty easily by listing it here. I had a modern round brilliant that I had about a year and then sold because I decided I wanted an AVR which is in my avatar picture. I sold the stone for 89% of what I paid and did much better than had I done a buyback. That is why buying a great cut stone pays off in the off chance you ever need to sell.

Alex, I think you sold your stone too low! I sold a 1.58 ct H VS1 GIA XXX for more than you sold yours for.
 
Wow thats true.. so how does the ED diamonds that I selected hold up to the ACA and CBI diamonds? I guess there is no guarantee with the Enchanted Diamonds right?

I am going to advise you to not think that way. An engagement ring should be safe from having to be sold short of a major war, famine, or other disaster! Start off your marriage living off less than you both earn, and that is the best protection you can have. Have a very solid emergency fund. That way if one of you loses a job, you won't be selling off precious sentimental items. Or she might want to stay home a few years with kids or something. The ring is not an investment and shouldn't be looked at as something that can be sold if there are extra bills.

I am glad the girl is not the issue! ;))

They probably are not going to have super ideal cuts, but they certainly can have stones that are excellent. I can take a look but only at the ones that have the images.

This one is not up to the cut quality of the WF and CBI, but it appears to be a nice diamond and while it might not be as easy to sell as the other brands, I will tell you that with that kind of initial price, you probably would not take too much of a loss on resale. Of course it you held it a few years and say she wanted to change to a different diamond, you might even be able to get all your money back. Does ED have an upgrade policy?
 
Thanks for the sound Advise DS.. I guess its because I have a substantial Watch Collection of Rolex and Patek.. and I only collect these two brands because of the sounds resell value.. I just think like this. We own two homes that are half paid off and live pretty well.. but always thinking about a rainy day if it ever happens.

Would appreciate you looking at that 2.02 I/VS :)

Awesome! You can sell a watch or two and let her keep the diamond! :lol: ;)) You two are doing great to only be 28! And you have awsome taste in watches!

This is tough. If you are that well off financially at this point, she is probably in social circles where the 2 ct stone would be desirable. Are you able to take a look at it before buying or not? Can they send the diamond to Vatche for you?

Oh, and I commented on that diamond right above your post. Let me go back and look one more time.

No way of looking before buying unfortauntely. Thing is she has a small finger.. size 4.25.. so honestly 1.72ct would probably look plenty big. If it was H in ACA I'd be buying it.. but the lure of 2ct I/VS2 for the same money is there.. I wont lie.. saves me an upgrade in 1-2years

Yeah, double price is basically no upgrade policy unless the original stone is very small.

Here's the thing. I really love the superideal cuts. There can be no regrets when you have top quality, and I am sure you can relate to that because of your watches. But realistically, most people can't just look at a diamond and tell the difference between superideal and excellent, so I don't know if I'd sacrifice that much size. (Okay, now I see she has a small finger. That helps!)

Tell me this, do you know what size diamonds her close friends and sisters wear?
 
Hah we're from New Zealand.. the average diamond size is 0.25 - 0.5ct.. no joke. Her mum and cousins have maybe 0.33ct so... whatever i get her will blow everyone and everything out of the water. 1.7 or 2.0. She is somewhat sensitive to color though.. so maybe this is a better option?

Hmmm that is nice.. how about buying at ED vs WF or CBI? As retailers there isnt much feedback on PS about them.. and they dont stock Vatche
 
Considering a 1.5+ ct diamond is going to be large where you are, it might make the most sense to buy from WF over ED since they carry Vatche and have a great upgrade policy on the chance you'd ever want to upgrade. If you were in a big American city, I'd say go for the 2 cts. But I don't think that is wise where you are as a smaller diamond in higher color with great cut might be more valued.
 
Yeh I agree good advice.. the H seems much safer.. but i was really aiming for that 1.7ct. the 1.66ct I/VS2 from CBI is close to 1.7... and i guess that H/.VS2 from WF is in the high 150's. What $$ would I need to goto for 1.7 in H/VS? in WF or CBI?
