Hi everyone,

I''m a first time shopper and have done some homework. I think I have found a diamond with a very good price but wanted your opinions.

The specs for the emerald cut diamond I found are:

GIA Certified
Price: $14,600
Weight: 2.00
Measurements: 7.88 x 6.32 x 4.45
Depth: 70.4%
Table: 71%
Girdle: Slightly Thick to Thick
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity: VS1
Color: G
Flourescence: None

The jeweler that I am dealing with is setting it in platinum with 2 G-colored emerald side stones weighing .69 total for $1,250.

Appreciate your opinions.

Thanks,
Ted

Well... the price sounds good, the cut ranks average (relative to THIS set of benchmarks, since I don't have the stone in front to get my own aesthetic sense out to work) and the offer on the setting promising (also, given that I don't see it, and this price would be more or less good news for your average model and very good news for a nicely made one).

For one, this is a square-ish stone (1.24 length x width) - all well since this is what you prefer. However, this might be one of the reasons why the price is attractive: clear cut rectangles (1.4 - 1.5 LxW) and near-perfect squares (1-1.05 LxW) would likely come more expensive.

Not sure these vague comments answer anything! The one way to go about it would be to look for a comparable stone... and see whether you still like the first one: not a very productive use of time, I am afraid.
