Hello Everyone and happy Holidays!

Can someone please help me and comment if this cushion has good cut, proportions etc? Thank you so much!

Fancy Yellow Cushion:
Measurements: 6.97 x 6.20 x 4.24
Carat weight: 1.71
Fancy Yellow
Clarity: VS2
Table: 69%
Depth: 68.5
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Fluorescence: Faint

I saw the diamond in person and I like the color.

What do you think? Does this stone has good cut?
Thanks everyone!

Anyone? Thank you!

Can you post pictures of the stone? It is impossible to decipher good or poor cut on numbers alone for cushions. I will say this though, the dimensions you posted for this stone makes me think that it faces up small for a 1.7 carat.

It has a rather large table. I would try to find one that is a "cushion brilliant" cut mid 60% depth and mid 50% table. Is it certified?

Without a picture we cannot see the facet pattern. I suggest you watch the cushion cut videos on GOG which will be very helpful in determining which type of faceting is most pleasing to you. Remember cut is king.

To get the best "yellow" color it needs to be designated as "FANCY" which the diamond you have is. You can buy an xyz color and set it in yellow gold and it will make the color stand out and save you some $.

You might want to check out these for comparison purposes, since you like the stone you have seen in person. These are all "antique" cut yellows which are very pleasing cut to most cushion lovers. GOG cuts their AVC's for the best light performance. Love this one on DBL but is a w/x color.

I think the stone you like faces up fine for a 1.7c stone. Here is a great site too for colored diamonds. Didn't see any ones i liked better than the antique cut cushions I posted above though.

I have purchased from Ronni before and he is good to work with, but no pictures.
this one is a large GIA 2.5c and is only $6,700. the numbers aren't too bad either:

Hi all,
Ariel,
Thank you for linking to our stone, and the nice words!
I can't speak for any other vendor- or about their stones.
But I will say that a price below $10k for a 2+carat Fancy Yellow indicates a mistake somewhere- or a really really poor diamond.
I'd expect a nice one to go for more than double- sounds like an error...

About cushions and how they face up: It's easy to see big differences in cushions that are cut for color and those cut to look colorless- there's really a dramatic difference.
In general though, I'd say that unless someone is dedicated to having an antique yellow diamond, modern cuts are a lot easier to find and cost less.

Butterfly- you have a huge advantage in that you've seen the diamond. As has been repeated here on countless occasions, numbers don't give us meaningful data on fancy shapes in particular.

I agree vidoes can play a huge role in helping us to learn about how a cut looks- but I'd also suggest watching a range of videos form different moviemakers- as different techniques highlight different aspects of a diamond's cut

It's a fancy color stone, so all the rules kinda go out the picture. The numbers really don't matter all that matters is the appearance and the color.
