I am new to all this - this site, and the whole buying diamonds thing ....and it''s doing my head in :-))))))))))))))))

Could someone tell me please - How does the ''Pricescope your Diamonds'' work ??

I understand the dealers to be found there are paying advertisers, but that fact that they are aloowed to advertise on this site, does this site then deem that they are reputable ?? and so buying from one of them is ''safe''?

Also - I am totally confused by the apparent price differences to what a novice like me.

I searched under size range 1.9 - 2.2 ct, G color, S2......... and i get prices anywhere from 8k to 13k

So how do you know what is good bad or indifferent - especially if you want to use Pricescope and buy on line and so wont see it until you have purchased it????

Would appreciate and keen to hear any advice / comments.

I''m not sure what shape you''re looking for, but if you''re looking for a round, I would check the box that says AGS0. That way you will be sure to get the selection of the ideal cut round stones. As far as prices, I think a 2 carat AGS0 will probably cost around $20,000 or so.

Almost all of the vendors listed on this site are reputable. I can''t say 100% of them are, because I personally haven''t bought from all of them. As far as knowing what you are buying is good, you should study the tutorials a bit more, and that will help you. Also, I think all of the vendors on here have some kind of return policy, so if you don''t like what you bought, you can return it.

Hi Colleen.

It can be a bit overwhelming huh? I think it would help you a lot if you do some reading up first, to get an idea of what it is your looking for. This is a tutorial that will help you. It really helps to do some homework, before making suh an important decision. It also helps ease some of the fears.

The better a diamond is cut, the more it will cost. Cut is the MOST important of the 4 C''s, that''s what will make your diamond crystal clear and sparkly. Also, when searching for a stone, choose the Cut Quality option, that will keep you in the best cut stones.

There are lots of reputable vendors on here, two of the most popular are GoodOldGold and Whiteflash, but there are many others. Try searching on here and you''ll begin to get an idea.

Hope this helps. After you''ve come up with something you''re interested in, if you post about it there are lots of people who will help you decide if it''s a good one.

Good luck!

Colleen,

I think the piece I wrote you can click on below my signature should help you a lot with your question.

Regarding the veracity of the advertisers here...that's where this forum comes in. Bad guys get a thrashing pretty good, all the vendors are very searchable with the utilities here, and -- basically -- the Pricescope forum runs a pretty effective self cleaning forum. Advertisers will not stick around too long, paying for getting thrashed. Goodwill is largely earned here, or that's how it seems to me.

P.S. The specific utility "Pricescope your Diamond" actually has a lot of different points of access to it, all also available under the third tab on the right, under Prices. There are really several databases included. I hadn't found the "in-house" db that helpful, so hadn't included it, but then again, the part of Pricescope that has housed this text, the "diamond book," is no longer editable, anyway.
