Oh geez, that is awful!

I just heard today of someone (doesn't work for my company) that needed to take next week to tend to some very personal family business and was told he wasn't showing dedication to the company. The same company that is the root cause of the personal family business he needs to tend to. That's worse than my situation. I'm trying to be positive about what doesn't suck about my job today. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

Ah, the joys of employment . . .

If you want to keep your job, you suck it up. If they are truly awful, their awfulness may eventually get them pink-slipped. You can hope. (This blessed event has actually happened to me numerous times. It''s awesome.

If you don''t care about keeping your job, resign and tell your boss exactly why. In detail. With feeling. Just ''cause you''ll feel better after.

I just skimmed through other responses, so if I am being repetitive I apologize. First off, I am sorry you are dealing with this, bad managers can make work life unbearable. I think that burning bridges, particularly in a close-knit profession, is not in your best interest in the long run. However, you of course have the right to stand up for yourself. There are several books on the market that deal with toxic co-workers and how to deal with them. That might be a good way to handle the situation for the short term if you are going to be leaving in the fall or sooner. Best wishes.
