I LOOOOOOOVE candles and I''m looking for new scents for my apartment. Currently my favorites are Capri Blue Candles (No.3 Aloha Orchid) from Anthropologie. I bought the big giant candle, and it''s lasting forever. It''s supposed to go for 140+ hours.

Here''s the description from Anthro: freshly picked orchids, jasmine and gardenia, entwined with white blossoms

I''ve also tried their No.6 Volcano. Love that one too, but my fave is No.3.

What''s your favorite candle scent? Or other home scent?

What''s my favorite home scent? The smell of someone else cooking dinner

I am a huge lover of very very nice candles so I almost feel ashamed to admit my new passion - Glade Scented Candles. Yes, these are the very same candles made by the air freshener people. Don''t laugh at me, please!

We have two cats, and no matter how much I clean (I clean the litter box twice a day, vacuum the whole apartment every day, etc) it always smells a bit like cat. I randomly picked up one of the Glade candles at the grocery store to give it a try. It was love at first light! The scents are very simple but noticeable without being overwhelming. The best part is that they do an amazing job with the odor. We have a neighbor that smokes, and the smoke goes from his balcony next door right into our living room if we keep the window open. Now when that happens all I do is light a Glade candle and place it on my mantle, right by the open door. It soaks up that icky cigarette smell without any problems. Now I don''t have to run and slam the door closed on nice nights.

Seriously, give them a try. There are coupons for these in the newspaper every few weeks and I''ve picked them up for less than $1 each.

I loooove candles too! My favorite are Yankee candles. These others sound wonderful too! I''ve never heard of Capri Blue candles or L''Occitane. Where can you find them?
My favorite Yankee candles are (depending on the season)
Spring/Summer-Sweet Strawberry or Honeydew
Fall/Winter-Pomegranate Cider or Harvest

Another Yankee fan here, but I am so sad when they discontinue fragrances I love.

I have hoarded some choc chip cookie, green grass and blueberry muffin for this reason. Grrr!! I know they have to keep coming up with new things, but why always discontinue the ones I really love???

Anyway, good ol'' Buttercream often scents my home, along with some flower fragrances in summer, but I tend to love the cakie foodie ones best!

I use a lightbulb ring from the Body shop with scented oils from a french company called Esteban. They are hard to find over here, so I stock up when I''m in Europe. Current fave: "pin" (aka pine). Very smooth, not too sweet. Yum. I also the Body Shop''s "steamed milk" scented oil. So relaxing!

We use Eau des Dogues.

It helps we have no carpeting. I use candles like Glade. Then one or both of the asthmatics gets wheezy, so I have to stop using those for awhile. Febreeze doesn''t help much, nor does Oust. It''s hard finding products to use when you have family members who are ultra sensitive. I have also used the scented oil with burner thingy.

I use a combo of candles, Febreez, and occasional spritzes of my own perfume.

For those of you who use Yankee, how do you keep it burning uniformly without tunneling?

I''ve used Yankee candles too, and HATE the tunneling! I''m a little kooky, so I blow it out (after the sides have gotten soft) and push the sides into the middle. Sorta helps. I love Yankee''s Autumn Leaves and Cranberry Chutney.

Lorelei, I feel like the cakie foodie scents would just make me hungry. No?

Loves2Laugh...you can get the Capri Blue at Anthropologie.com

Giada, I''ve heard the Voluspa candles burn through very quickly. Have you had that problem?

The nice thing about the giant Capri Blue candle that I have is NO TUNNELLING!!!! Burns totally evenly.

Yes

The first time I ever used a blueberry muffin candle, my Hubby was muttering about how his mouth was watering, yet couldn''t understand why

Twas the authentic smelling candle!

Right now we are using a giant Yankee Candle in pomegranete and it is heavenly! Sometimes we buy Plug-ins but the kitties like to knock them out of the outlets. I like the "clean linen" fragrance for Plug-ins since it is nice and fresh.

HI:

Altho I buy a few brands, the handiest (accessibility) are from Pacifica. Mediterrean Fig is my fav.....

haha...could be a good way of tricking people into thinking I can bake, huh?

If you had neighbors close by, I''m sure they''re thinking...that Lorelei lady is ALWAYS baking blueberry muffins! Does she sell them? How does she eat them all EVERYDAY?!

Pacifica is the soy candle right? Do they last long? Mmmm...mediteranean fig sounds wonderful...

As far as the tunneling goes on the Yankees, I''ve had to learn different things to do to prevent it. I always cut the wick to about 1/8" before I light it and I use a topper on the jar either being a shade or a metal "Illuma Lid" and that really makes a differece. The biggest thing with any big candle I use, if I''m not going to burn it for more then a half hour or so, I don''t bother lighting it because any candle will tunnel if not given a chance to melt properly. I feel like I''m giving a candle 101 class, hehe!

Lorelei: I love Buttercream too!! Smells like you''ve been baking all day! My DH has come to dislike it though because I think I was cooking something while burning it and it made for a not-so-great combination!

DKS, I''ve tried that too! But I don''t think the scent lasts as long as I would like. It just comes and goes, you know?

Yes they are, and yes they do! Burn evenly too. I also like Voluspa and have always wanted to try the Jo Malone, but cannot get over the price point........

Yay - another BC fan!

Thanks for the advice on tunneling too, this has happened on occasion, but one thing I really hate is how the jar can get sooty - yuck!

We use a combo of Yankee candles, currently -

Xmas Home Sweet Home, Vanilla Cookie, and Bath and Body Works Spicy Gingerbread

It''s heaven.

We used to use the B&B Works plug-ins (I''d stock up during the semi-annual sale), but really haven''t much since moving - we live in an old house and heavy things won''t stay in some of the sockets. Plus, we can''t find half of the plug dealies, and those are kinda expensive!

We also have one of those Yankee reed diffusers in Mango Salsa - I haven''t flipped it in awhile, though.

I don''t have that problem at all. I find that the scent lasts and lasts. Have you tried moving to a damp climate??

I LOVE Woodwick Candles and my reasons are two fold...
1. They have a woodwick in the middle and at times it sounds like a fireplace
1.gif

2. They smell up the whole house!! I light one downstairs and I go upstairs and it''s just as strong.

I also love Glade Plug-ins. I have them all over. I love Hawiian Breeze and the White Lily and Jasmine. They smell great!
I also get these drawer satchels at Linens and Things...those smell great as well!

I''m allergic to most smelly things. So, I have to stick with fruity smells. My favorite candle is called Apples and Oak and it smells like an apple orchard. I also have an assortment of vanilla candles. They come in many varieties now, cinnamon vanilla, sugarcane, sugar cookie.

My mom makes candles so we play a lot with scents. One of my favorite smells is mango, but i don''t want my whole house drowned in it, so we mix it with a little vanilla to warm up the fragrance and mellow it, then add in some apple or blueberry to give it some more depth.

We love Yankee candles, Glade candles and sprays, Pier One candles...Oust, Febreze, you name it, we don''t discriminate when it comes to making our house smell good. DH will go to the grocery and bring home generic store brand candles and they seem to work fine...whereas I''m always trying to create a "scentscape" LOL! We used to love Pier One incense and burnt a ton of those sticks until we got tired of cleaning up the awful ashy mess they left (incense tray thingie or not). Thankfully some of our favorite scents were also available in room sprays or candles. Haven''t been scent shopping in a while, this thread reminds me I need to get some new scents for spring! Last time I bought a candle it was at a Pier One, and I only bought it because the huge frosted/etched glass hurricane lamp/candle holder was so pretty...that was last fall!

Lately I''ve been relying on $.97 cans of Glade in Clean Linen (I think). Does the trick pretty quickly and I''m not worrying that i''ve left a candle burning somewhere in the house when we leave.

I use candles from the Tommy Bahama store. I love the pineapple cilantro and another who's name is escaping me. They are very high quality lasting a looooooong time and burn evenly.

I love Illuminations candles....my fave, chardonnay,is on sale right now!!!! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I tend to like a uniform scent throughout the entire house, so I use Air Wick scented oil plug ins. Right now, my scent of choice is Calming Magnolia and Cherry Blossom. There is at least one in every room of the house, but some of the bigger rooms have 2. Whenever I go to Target, I always buy some because I HAVE to have them.

Yay! My Yankee Candles from the President''s Day sale arrived today. I bought two large jars of Red Apple Wreath, and they smell like apple cider and cinnamon. It''s just like drinking apple cinnamon tea, but just the scent!

I think I''ve found a keeper. I got the 22oz. tin top cylinder ones this time, because I''m just so sick of the glass lid ones not burning properly, no matter what "trick" I use. The toppers help some, but not much when it gets to the bottom... So far, it''s melted all around, my room smells heavenly, and I''m very very satisfied.
