How Do You Pronounce "GIF?"

Hard g for me otherwise I start craving peanut butter.

What sonny said :)

I rarely say it aloud, but in my head it sounds like "jif" aka peanut butter brand. I heard someone pronounce it with a hard "g" last week and I kind of cringed. We are both steadfast believers that our way is the correct way of pronouncing it, of course.

It really is my understanding that the soft G (or J sound) is the correct way. I used to think it was the hard G though; by the time I learned the "right way" it was too late, lol. I almost always have to remind or correct myself right before I say it.

I think everyone here says GIF (hard G) but we are Aussies so we only speak Stralyan (see my other post) aka, bastardised English anyway

I think it is/should be a hard G because "gif" means 'graphic interface file', and 'graphic' is pronounced with a hard G; unless you pronounce it 'giraffe-ic'.

I'd say it with a hard "g" sound too. Jif in the UK is a bathroom cleaning product......

SOOOOO glad I am not eating peanut butter right now!

Depends on who I'm talking to...lol

But mostly Gif with a hard G

As someone who had peanut butter crunch cereal for dinner yesterday and then breakfast this afternoon (late wake up), jif it is!

I pronounce it like gift without the 't' and if someone said it like 'jif' I would think they were talking about the peanut butter and would be confused. Plus, the 'g' stands for graphics which has a hard g.

Jif
