How do you know if the Step pattern is good on an Asscher

I was wondering what the step pattern should look like in a typical asscher? Is this just a matter of preference or is there one that is preferred by all? Should the lines outlining the square be dark or clear?

definitely a preference. i think we could all unanimously agree that the optical symmetry is highly important (most important?) but the preference for certain patterns is differing. see as many as you can and decide what YOU like.
