Does a diamond certificate show that the diamond is a proprietary cut diamonds such as ACA, Hearts and Arrows, etc. How would you know if the cut is a "branded" one?

Thanks in advice for any help.

You''ll know if it is branded because the jeweler will be selling it as such. But some do have an inscription on the girdle or table.

Does the certificate state anything? I know that some branded cuts have their own certificate, along with laser inscription, but I was wondering if GIA, or AGS made note of branded cuts on their certificates.

Yes, although I'm not positive if all brands do (but I would imagine so). You'll see it under "Comments" on the grading report where the brand name/number is inscribed on the girdle.

Take a look at this ACA certificate from Whiteflash. Look at the bottom left of the certificate and you will see the "A Cut Above" statement plus the inscribed girdle number on the certificate.

The labs will note whatever inscriptions are written on the girdle and this is sometimes used by dealers as part of a branding initiative but this is simply a matter of the lab reporting the facts of the stone. It's not any sort of recognition by the lab of the brand. "Ted's Awesome #1" may be a wonderful stone, but writing that on the girdle doesn't make it so and having the lab report that it's there has nothing to do with it's awesomeness.

Dealers use branding as a way of saying that there is a bundle of benefits associated with that particular brand and that you can be assured that the stone will meet those specs simply by knowing the brand. It’s part of the sales pitch more than part of the diamond itself. It’s also worth noting that not all brands stand for the same things, just like brands in clothing or anything else. I think branding is helpful in cases where you know what the brand stands for, like Tiffany, GIA, Mark Morrell or Hearts on Fire, but absent that, it doesn’t really tell you much.
