Hi I''m getting married in monroeville (a suburb outside of pittsburgh,pa). It is a small town with not many salons/spas. I am planning the wedding from out of town so I can''t really go try them out. Theres not many to pick from on the internet. I''m freakin out...how do I find one. I really dislike the way makeup counter ppl did my makeup and I don''t really trust someone at ulta to do it. I want a real professional. I''m kind of afraid theres nothing thats meets my standards. I live in the NJ/nyc metro area so I''m used to lots of options here...but when its pittsburgh theres not many options. Help!

Do you have any friends in the area who could help to point you in a good direction? Have you tried to look up any of the places on Yelp! to see if you can find what other people are saying about a particular salon?

I''m from a smallish town and I found that word of mouth was more powerful than any other tool. If you have the ability to get word out that you are looking for hair and make-up you may get suggestions from the oddest places but they will probably be very good suggestions.

You either bring someone with you from the city, or you go out there for a few days and test with a few people. The nice thing is that you might find a diamond in the rough at some small salon who will be cheap AND good. But it is much harder to suss out without being there yourself...

Unfortunately my friends in the area are not girly girls...They do not go to salons to get their hair styled and what not. My parents are not really of any help either as they do not go the salons either. I looked at yelp and the top 5 suggestions include ulta, and mac makeup counter which i think is pretty bad...

Then I think you need to do as Neatfreak suggested and try to plan a little trip out there to test out a few place. I''ve heard that not all MAC counters are created equal...

I would 1) go out there and try out the people in Monroeville, 2) See how expensive it would be to have someone come out from Pittsburg 3) Have a professional in NY/NJ teach you how to do your own makeup.

Woowooo! I live like 30 minutes from Monroeville, I actually lived there for a year and a half. Unfortunatly, I don''t know what to tell you about the make up. When I lived there most ppl talked about Regis in the mall as being a good salon, but I guess that was more for getting a color/cut. I''ll keep thinking about it though, I may remember something useful!

Have you looked into this place?

"Uforia Salon and Spa located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. An award winning full service salon and day spa. Special spa and hair packages for the bride and her bridal party."

I dont think I can put the number down. I think it may be against rules of some sort.

here''s another one from Pittsburgh: On location hair and makeup:

"We are Pittsburgh''s top hair stylists and makeup artists specializing in on location hair and makeup for weddings, film, print, television and fashion shows. Our team of experts are award winning beauty professionals, having worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Experience the best and get the star treatment that you deserve on your special day."

Goodluck!

I would try Criagslist, if I were you.

You can probably find a very talented MUA and HS on there willing to travel to you on your on your wedding day...and for a trial as well.
