How do you feel when you wake up?

I am realizing that I wake up anxious most of the time. And if I don''t wake up anxious I am anxious within an hour or so - when after doing a few things I realize an hour has already gone by.

I get anxious over what time it is, what I want to get done, how I probably won''t have enough time to do it all. And the rare chance I feel like going shopping for clothes that only adds to it since it''s not really "important." It''s really terrible...

There''s always like this clock ticking behind my head. arrggghhh

Do any of you guys feel this way?

I feel like I need more sleep. Every.single.time. Doesn''t matter when I''ve gone to bed or when I wake up. I do not wake up like a pop tart, ready to face the world, like so many people I know. I don''t like to dawdle in the mornings. I like to get up, get ready and start attacking the day.

I feel tired. If you''re anxious when you wake up, it might be low or high blood sugar. Just a thought.

It sounds like you might be suffering from anxiety, especially if it''s every day.

Have you tried making lists or schedules the day or week before? When you wake up, you know what''s expected and may find it easier to get motivated or at least be calmer.

Always tired. Doesn''t matter how many hours I sleep I don''t think I have ever felt refreshed.

I either feel like it is way to early to get out of bed and roll over or I feel annoyed with myself that I have wasted half the day sleeping.

On days that I am forced to get up for work I think about the next time I can sleep in to get me through until I am awake enough to attack the day.

On a side note DH wakes up angry. It doesnt matter how long he has slept, he is pissed that he isnt still sleeping.

I think you may have a health issue on your hands. You shouldnt feel frazzled morning, noon and night.

I usually feel wonderful when I wake up, like starting a new chapter in a book I can't put down.

Tired. I am going through the change, and it''s not fun. Sleeping was never an issue for me, but now?? I wake up way early and hate it. I could sleep till the cows came home before, now it''s like I am getting up early to milk them at an un-godly hour...

In truth before all of this I woke up happy. Not over the top happy, just content.

Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy...sorry, that stupid song is catchy! Anyway, I wake up GRUMPY, but after about half an hour, I''m perfectly delightful.

I wish I felt like Kenny. My DH is more like that, but I''m more like most of you who have replied. I always wake up tired and groggy, no matter how long I sleep.

ditto... though that doesn''t mean I pop out of bed... often the book is in a dream and I can''t put that down lol I almost always wake up thanking the earth that I get one more day of looking out of my eyes at wondrous things. I have much more anxiety when I go to bed but not that much, just more.

I feel even better 30 minutes later when the coffee kicks in.

I have yet to wake up feeling refreshed........ever
I say
"This is a day that the Lord has made
Rejoice and be glad in it".
Then I drag myself out and have a coke.

If I wake up on my own I feel great. If I have to wake up to an alarm I feel horrible and slow to start.

Ditto. I''m not a morning person. My husband loves to get up early, make coffee, eat breakfast, etc. I like to sleep as late as possible and usually eat breakfast at work, if I have any at all. I don''t even really like to eat food right when I wake up.

I could have written both of these posts. I am just not a morning person.

That being said, I never wake up with anxiety or anything like that. I''m usually just a bit sleepy if I''m getting up to an alarm, and refreshed if I''m waking up on my own.

My husband is annoyingly alert and happy in the mornings. If only I could teach him to make poached eggs for me . . .

Can I thritto this?
My husband needs very little sleep and I always wake up wanting more.
He can work 36 hours straight and still be happy. Not needing a lot of sleep is a gift (that unfortunately I don''t have)

I wake up pretty much feeling like someone has beaten me with a crowbar pretty much every day. (I only wish that was TIC). Exhausted and unbelievably stiff, and it usually takes most of the day to go away, if at all. I also often wake up with a migraine in the middle of the night...

Trying to figure out what day of week it is. Whether I have to get up or may sleep for another hour. I feel horribly cr.py-sleepy in the morning. Always.

Hahaha! Yes it is Doodle!

If I wake up to an alarm, I feel sick. My internal clock usually wakes me earlier than I need to get up so if I sleep until the alarm wakes me, it's like I'm having a heart attack sometimes. Even if my alarm is on the lowest setting (I'm a light sleeper) it still shocks the hell out of me. And I don't snooze, I just get up, which is sometimes not the best thing after you've had a heart attack, and are almost literally nauseated. I should probably lie in bed for a few minutes on these days.

CJ, do you go to sleep anxious, or is it just when you wake up? Do ever remember having disturbing dreams?

I wak up tired thinking rats it''s time to get up.

I wake up feeling tired and often sore. I am not a morning person and will sleep in as late as possible. Even now with my morning sickness I take my anti-nausea meds when DH leaves for work and then I cat nap for about 20 minutes before eating something small while still in bed. Then I get up, shower, get dressed, etc.

I am sooo lucky that DH is a morning person because on weekends he gets up with our almost 2 year old son between 7 - 8 and lets me sleep in; usually until 10 or 11! I know that is so bad and I must sound like a teenager.

Left to my own devices I''d be up until around 2am and then sleep well and not wake until 11 or noon the next day. It''s the real world though and I have to be at work by 9 so I get in bed around 11 but don''t sleep well at all.

I feel the same way! But if I wake up on my own like during the weekend, I typically feel great!

How, how, HOW!? Share, please! Do you usually get a full 7-8 hours of sleep? Do you have a particular wind-down routine in the evenings?

I always feel like I've been hit by a truck... hangover-like, almost. Achy, headache, tired, and generally blah-feeling. I think I need to up my water intake and set my coffee maker on a timer so that it's already brewed by the time my alarm goes off

But yes... dehydration might have something to do with it.

I thought once I owned a Tempurpedic my awful AMs would be a thing of the past. Not so.

Pils--I''m not Kenny, but I can definitely feel a difference in the morning when I do certain things at night.

One key for me is to drink a lot of water a couple hours before I go to sleep. (I can''t drink it too soon before I go to sleep, because then I''ll have to wake up for a potty run in the middle of the night!)

Another key for me is to wind down. The first thing I do is make sure that everything is set up for work the next morning. That just helps me get a better night''s sleep. (For me this means that I have my bags ready to go, I haven''t left any last-minute grading for the morning, I know I have enough clean and pressed items to put an outfit together, etc.)

And then I read in bed. I like to read a light, fun book in bed. I think this helps me clear my mind of all the thoughts that have been racing around all day, because when I don''t read before bed I usually end up staying awake for hours thinking about a million different things.

And, I usually get at least seven hours of sleep.

Thanks for your reply, Haven! This is actually quite helpful... Admittedly my evenings are spent on a laptop, finishing up school work, and thinking of all the last-minute reading I need to cram into my early morning routine. Perhaps part of my feeling like cr*p has to do with time-management skills in general. Like many others who responded, I stay awake thinking of all the things I need to accomplish the following day.

Any good book recommendations? Nothing too good, though... I don''t want to stay up til 3am because I *have* to finish the story

Has this ever happened to you?

Does your bedtime routine coincide with your DH''s? I sometimes think that DH and I need to be on the same page about our evening routines. I tend to sleep restlessly if I know he is up, watching sports or working on something, and he sleeps restlessly when I''m out of bed, finishing up school work. When we go to bed at the same, reasonable hour my mornings are a tad bit more bearable.

(Sorry, OP for the mini-threadjack... But I''m hoping you''re finding posters'' advice to be helpful!)

This is me, too. Having SLE Lupus for the past 7 1/2 years, I''m lucky to wake up and be able to get out of bed each day. I toss and turn all night/day while I''m trying to sleep and end up hurting all over/stiff as a board when I finally do decide to get up. Having sleep apnea is no fun, either, and I have to use my CPAP machine to help me sleep. Sleeping pills are necessary, too, when I''m so exhausted and sleep won''t come. Pain pills help with the chronic pain and allow me to relax enough to sleep.

I had to take a disability retirement 3 years ago when my illnesses became too much for my body. My severe fatigue requires me to take multiple naps during the day and I never know how long I''ll be in the bed.

I take medication for anxiety and would be lost without it.

Kenny, you''re very fortunate!

Lori

If it's a busy time I'll wake up nervous and anxious, but I usually take some time to fully wake up - there's the stretching, curling up again for a few minutes to savour the warm blankets, slowly pulling one eye open at a time...

My alarm is set 15m early, and I milk every second of it. And then I'm grouchy for another half hour or so 'cause I'm not back in bed.

I'm not a morning person at all.

I think my circadian rhythm is broken. If I let myself sleep until I wake up, then I will get 9-11 hours sleep. It doesn't matter if I go to sleep at 9pm or even 4am, I require oodles of sleep. My husband only needs a maximum of 6 hours sleep and wakes up naturally almost every morning. It must be nice.
