How do you decide on a setting?

There are so many amazing inspirational rings out there and I'm drawn to a handful of very different styles. (Art deco, mid century classics, and modern HW styles for example.) My pinterest inspiration board is all over the map! I know I want a halo and I know I want cathedral shoulders, but that's about all I can nail down.

I blew my budget on a stone, so I planned to set it in a simple temp solitaire, but its killing me to spend $600-900 on a ring I know won't last me more than a year or so. Plus, I just think my stone is so amazing that she deserves a terrific home and I have a feeling my husband is cutting me off after this!

How do you decide?

And are there cheaper temp settings for a stone that measures 8.37 x 8.8

You don't have to. JA has a setting for $180 that's a true temp setting and you'd have more time to save for the setting you want and decide what it is you want.

JA might charge a little more to make a cushion fit. That setting only fits up to a 1.4 ct for cushions.

If you know which jeweler you are going to go with for your ultimate dream setting, you can ask if they can put your diamond in a temp/cheaper setting for you and then apply the price of that temp setting towards your dream setting a year from now. Sholdt offered to do this for me while I decided on a setting and I'm sure that lots of jewelers would do this for you too.

You can go on ebay and get a LOGR temp setting. They are under $300. Quality won't be fantastic but definitely fine for just a year.

As far as styles you will either have to narrow down what you truly love or have mulitple rings. I have learned you can fit all your requirements into 1 ring for the most part.

I'm sure they can accommodate a larger stone at a smaller charge extra. Meg - I would ask them.

LOGR settings are a great option. I have a lot of them and they are not bad at all. I even wore a halo LOGR ring on my Jamaica trip - kept it on in the ocean, snorkelling and all ... I didn't even lose a single melee. LOL.

Charmy, you obviously have THE most diverse pave ring collection of anyone anywhere!!! I already thought that, but to learn you also have LOGR settings, I now know it to be true!

So you have a LOT of them??? What is in them?

Thanks ladies.

I'll check out LOGR. How do you get a stone set when you buy a semi mount on ebay? Just take it to a local B&M store?

If I didn't have a general dislike of knife edge rings, I'd be all over that for a temp.

I have about 30 LOGR + Other China vendor rings. Many of them have nothing in them but the rest have color gemstones! This was my fun times in the CS forums that got me obsessed.

Yup that is exactly what you do. Most places charge between $30-$100 so shop around or call to see in advance what they charge.

I think I have half of them saved in my inspiration folder!!!! Oh how I wish LOGR (and the other chinese vendors) would have their pricing go back to 2008- then they were dirt cheap. You could get a great ring for under $300 WITH PAVE!! Now they are closer to $700-$800 for something similar.

*swoon* I love stalking the CS forum. Have you ever done a family photo shoot?

I honestly just wish I could afford to send my stone to VC and be done. I had a few convos with him and I just feel like he would have made something amazing.

Meg I have my old VC halo. He might be able to tweak the head to fit your oval. I have no idea how much that would cost since it is made for a 8.2mm RB. Please don't think I'm trying trying to be a salesperson! Just trying to get creative!

I do LOVE  the Ritani though that N just posted! :appl:

That Ritani may be the perfect temp since it's roughly half the cost of what Adam quoted me to use his bench.

Sarah, I adore your ring, but I do think it deserves a perfect round stone.

I'm in love with that setting I really want to see someone get it IRL. Ive even considered it myself. I think 550 is fair for a ring you'll wear for a year or two. Want to look down and still love it, even if its not your forever setting. I'd look to see if there's a b&m store near you that could set it.
