How do you cope in the hot weather?

A/C, extra water intake and lots and lots of whining!

Me, too! I loathe summer. It also helps me keep track of how many days are left. When I am walking to work I think, "I only have to deal with this for 71 more days. I only have to deal with this for 71 more days."

It really shouldn''t be this hot in the UK. We just aren''t built for it. I burn easily and have freckles so I definitely don''t do well in the sun. I don''t know where this weather comes from. I hope we don''t have to put up with it all summer. I love overcast breezy slightly warm days, and thats usually all we get here.

You have all given me great advice. I will try all of it. I wish I could have a pool/outdoor shower/air con! Anyone who has this is very blessed!

I have a fan which I sit in front of. It does help. I struggle a lot more when I have to walk anywhere. Fat girls + sun = miserable!

I really feel for you Maisie, because I have a very hard time when it''s very hot, and here on Long Island, very humid! Can you get yourself a small air conditioner to put in a central location in your house? The small ones, if they''re energy ellicient, really don''t use much electricity at all and they can be plugged into a regular outlet. Also, wear 100% cotton tees and shorts/capris. 100% cotton breathes, unlike the new synthetics which just make you sweat more. Make some nice sweet ice tea in a big pitcher and leave it in the fridge and take a small glass every hour or two. You must feel now, how I feel in July and August here. Like I just want to escape to some place cooler!

I soak it up. I LOVE hot hot hot weather. Heat, humidity - bring it!

I''m with waterlilly. I do stay out of the sun though, don''t like it. Most of the time I have pretty dry skin so when it''s humid I drink it it.

I was just posting on Kenny''s thread about the sun (yeah, that evil, EVIL thing

I can''t stand the heat...The temperature in Greece right now is 38 - 40 degrees celcius (100 - 104 Fahrenheit) and i don''t know what to do...I also have to deal with EVERYBODY else who''s happily making plans about going to the beach for sunbathing, etc, etc...and they accuse me of being the party spoiler

I''m wondering...are they nuts? How can they stand that heat??? I''m staying in as much as possible and try to drink tons of water...And i definitely wear only cotton clothes and underwear, plus i''m having many showers during the day...The bad news is that those extreme temperatures don''t go away until late September here...

Inferno...

I feel for you as I have a friend from Belgium who just is miserable in any temp over the low 80''s. I LOVE the heat but do take steps to cool down. I wear loose fitting cotton or linen cloathing. Drink lots of water, and use a fan and sometimes fine water spray to cool down. I also have a pond I can jump in if I get too hot. Wonder what the neighbors think? lol

Ew I HATE summer heat. Especially when it is accompanied by humidity. I can barely stand outside on some days without feeling like I just want to keel over and die.

I had to go to the main post office this morning. I was there at 9.15. I thought I was going to pass out with the heat and it was only 71 degrees! There was no breeze at all though, I can usually get by if there is a little air circulating.

I am extra good at whining so if that helps I am all for it

I realised that I only had one drink all day. Thats not enough and I need to make more effort.
I''m not good at remembering water either. I''ve been keeping a 1.5L bottle of water with me everywhere I go. If I have it with me I just pick it up and take a drink when I need to -- much easier than going to get a glass (and getting distracted by starting a load of dishes, watering the plants, starting dinner....). I just re-fill it each day rather than going through a bunch of bottles.

I went from drinking mayby 16oz. of water + 16oz herbal tea (and often not that much) to drinking 16oz herbal tea + 1.5L (50.7oz) water and sometimes more.

I actually love the heat and humidity. I know, I''m weird. I can''t stand winter or being cold though, and I have dry skin so the hot humid weather alleviates all of my winter ailments!

You and I must be in the minority here! I won''t go as far to say I love the humidity, but I do love summer. And I also have horridly dry skin, which becomes scary in the winter.

I love the summer, when I can eat meals on our deck, lay by the pool, and go on walks/hikes. Since I''m so wimpy when it comes to the cold, I pretty much don''t see the outdoors in the colder months, so it''s nice to enjoy them now that it''s warm (it''s been in the 90s here).

I cope by wearing lots of sunscreen, drinking fluids, and definitely bug spray.

I have always loved summer weather... however, since living on the gulf-coast of Florida (about mid-way down), I can say... HUMIDITY CAN SUCK IT.

Working with horses, I''m outside constantly, regardless of the weather, but now in summer, a majority of my "work work" gets done before 10am (exercising horses, etc.). I only survive the rest of the day by not even bothering to do my hair (I have stashes of ponytail holders everywhere), wearing tank tops, and on particularly hot/humid days, abandoning all pretense of wearing jeans to the barn and going the route of shorts and knee-high muck boots. I may look like a fool, but I stay cooler.

Water is the greatest thing ever in summer... I''ll usually have a cooler in the back of my truck with ice (to chew on, and to keep drinks cool) and 1-2 gallon jugs of drinking water while I''m at the barn.

((I''ll be so happy when we re-instate our Kentucky in the summer, Florida in the winter travel/living plan.

It was put on hiatus when FH was injured at the track a year and a half ago))

Ac, ac, ac!
Lots of water and cold beverages. (typically I drink things with mint or so since I find it refreshing)
Flip flops, shorts or skirts, and tank tops or light t-shirts

I have been carrying a box fan around the house with me for the last few days. Oklahoma is usually hot in the summer, but this year we''ve had the added curse of humidity, and that''s what puts me over the edge! So right now I have a 24" box fan on top of a kitchen chair blowing on me as I sit in my rocker and type. A woman does what she has to do.......

I wear skirts and tank tops, or a light sundress sometimes. Open toe shoes are a must too. I try to not run the AC (it gets expensive!), so I will drink lots of cold drinks and treat myself to a popsicle

in order to cool off. But if that plus my portable fan does not work, I will run the AC as a last option.
