Hi Everyone,

Based on these specs, what do you think of the stone? It scored 0.8 on the HCA.

Table: 55%
Depth: 62.1%
Crown Angle: 35.5
Pavillion Angle: 40.4
Polish/Symmetry: VG/VG
Girdle: Thin-Slightly Thick
75% LGF
50% Stars

Should I be concerned about the 75% lgf/50% stars? I don''t want the stone to look dark.

sugarplum,

I don''t know specifically, but here''s a link to a thread I had going in which there is some discussion of the lgf relating to a higher crown like yours. Don;t know if this is any help, thought I''d throw it out there.

Hi Angeline,

I should''ve noted that I''ve searched through previous threads on lgf and posted this question in hopes of getting feedback on the specific stone I''m looking at.

Thanks!

I had this similar question myself in a recent post. However, why would you think that the 75, 50 combo would make it look dark?

I of course am not qualified to answer your question, but am looking to understand it a little better--also the more post you get the more likely you are to get hits and responses ;) I wasn't aware of the LGF and sar really having a "darkening" affect, at least within a reasonable parameter? I thought it was more about minute details of balance between fire, brightness and scintillation?

As a final thought, If I had the money to make a big purchase I would personally hold out for a lower depth percentage and a slightly lower crown angle, but I don't have much experience observing actual stones.

And thanks for your greeting earlier! I am sorry I can't help you on this one, but I will be checking responses for my own knowledge, so hopefully we will both get the answer!

75 is too short for that combo should be closer to 80.

Strmrdr- Do you think I should completely pass on this stone or is it still worth taking a look at? Will this combo make the inside of the stone appear dark?

WorkingHardforSmallRewards- I read that a short lgf% could cause the stone to appear dark.

Hi Strmrdr- It is local. I''m going to go check it out today after work. Are there any specific red flags I should look out for? Thanks!

because of the shallow pavilion.
40.4
They work much better with longer lgf% in the 80% range.
With pavilions in the 40.7+ range its more a matter of personality but in shallow pavilion stones its a matter of performance.

check it at 10-12 inches against a more tradition ideal cut.

Thanks Strmrdr! I''ll be sure to do that. I appreciate your feedback. Do you think this stone has any hope of being a nice one? Or does the shallow pavillion (40.4) kill it and there''s just no way this is worth purchasing?

Hi All,

I saw the stone in person and have passed on it. The arrows were definitely bigger than a more ideal stone and it did appear to be a tiny bit darker (but nothing extreme). It was a good learning experience and I now know that I prefer a longer lgf%. The BF and I have also decided to purchase our stone online so I''m going to end this post now and go search for stones!!
