Hi everyone,

I currently have a diamond that was handed down to me. It''s in a setting alredy. I will be purchasing a new setting probably from Pearlmans. I live in New England though. How do I go about this? Do I send the ring to Pearlmans for them to mount the stone into the new setting? Or do I just buy the setting and bring it to a trusted jewelry store that does work in my area?

Should I take the handed down ring to my local jeweler first for them to look at it and make sure it''s ok? There is a damaged prong and i don''t have any specs on the diamond.

Where do I start? I feel overwhelmed.

Better to get to jeweler or an independent appraiser to look at it first, so that at least you will know what setting size to buy for.

Setting the stone, you can go both ways unless you want to maintain the designer''s ring warranty.

Thank you. Are you saying if I have pearlmans set it, it maintains the warranty of the ring?

Also, I want to see the setting in person first. Can I buy it have them send it, then send it all back to be mounted? whew!

If it is a designer''s setting, they will have authorized vendor that can set the stone into the setting or have the stone send to them to be set.

You can buy the setting to view it and then send it back for setting, just additional delay and shipping fees.

Thank you very much for your help.

le chateau,

Pearlmans is a very helpful business. Call them and discuss your options. I have dealt with Jason, you can ask for him if you like. They will send settings out on approval for you to take a look if there are no dealers in your area.

Bill Pearlman is a gentleman of the old school, he will certainly look after you.

Don''t forget to tell them you''re from Pricescope they also give a PS discount
