Hello everyone
35.gif

I went yesterday to the diamond district and narrowed it down to two stones. I have the GIA report for each, but I wanted to check with some of the experts here before I purchase anything...

Stone 1:
Princess
Square Modified Brilliant
5.72 x 5.63 x 4.11
1.08 carat
Color = G
Clarity = VS2
Polish = Excellent
Symmatry = Good
Fluorescence = Strong Blue
Table = 69%
Depth = 73%
Girdle = Thin
Diagram = Has a couple crystal circles
Price = $4600 out the door

Stone 2:
Princess
Square Modified Brilliant
5.89 x 5.76 x 4.29
1.21 carat
Color = G
Clarity = SI1
Polish = Very Good
Symmatry = Very Good
Fluorescence = None
Table = 75%
Depth = 74.5%
Girdle = Thin - Very Thick
Diagram = Has two cloud circles and a couple crystal circles
Price = $5300 out the door

I looked at both in person and stone 1 seemed to be a little bit more white/brighter/"pop", but I couldn't see that much of a difference but stone 2 did look a little bit bigger. So I'm just not sure which one to go with. Does anything stand out in the two specs? Any red flags?

Thanks for your help!

Hi FFI,

Can you check the depth for the first diamond please?

Opps

73% not 43%

Thanks!

I would suggest before you pull the trigger on either of these, see if you can take a look at some AGS0 cut grade Princess. It is really hard to be able to judge these shapes without seeing them by the numbers...These diamonds could be mediocre performers or look okay - so I would say if you could check out some AGS0 to get a good idea of what a well cut Princess looks like, then you can choose from there. I would say to look some more to get a decent comparison, but where possible when comparing diamonds, see if you can check them out away from the store lights so you can tell if the stone still appeals in more real life lighting conditions.

I agree with Lorelei to see some AGS0 for comparison, if you haven't. Then, if you don't find much difference in performance, go for the stone you like the best of these two. I would "guess" the first one would be the better looking stone, but without more info it's just a guess. Your assessment seems to possibly verify that. The difference in size will pretty much be negligible when in a setting.

p.s. Make sure you look at the first one in bright sunlight to make sure the strong flo is not adversely affecting it. (rare)

Ok, thanks for your help. Does the price seem reasonable?

And he offered to have it put in a white gold solitaire setting for a couple hundred dollars. Sound like a good deal?

Its hard to tell with prices as many variables, but you can do a comparison using the tool above Pricescope your Diamond, generally online prices are less than with a brick and mortar store. The setting price sounds reasonable.

I went to a friend in a Diamond Distribution company that normally doesn''t sell to individuals.

I''ll check out that tool on Pricescope. Thanks!

I thought you wanted a princess stone with a slightly higher depth % than table %
