Hi all,
I''m getting close to buying a ring, but I''m not sure of my girlfriend''s ring size. She''s all the way across the country right now, and doesn''t really wear rings as it is, so I don''t have much to go by. I want to try to estimate what might be close, and then adjust after she tries it on if I have to. I don''t want to ask and ruin the surprise. She''s 5''2" and weighs about 110. So obviously she''s not too big. Her hands are probably a little smaller than average, although it''s hard to guess. What ring size might that be? Is a half size difference in a ring pretty significant? Thanks for anything you might know.

Well if she's slender, she could be a size 5. My suggestion is purchasing the stone, and geting it set in a very inexpensive simple white gold setting that she can always change to her style and size. It will also make it easier if you get the ring in a size 5.5 (as the average is 6), and if it's too big, she can easily have it sized. but better than being too small!!!

Good luck!

Most would ahve a half size adjusted if loose, but this is really routine and readily feasible for most ring designs (not tension, or rings with engraving or gems set all around the band). If we are anything alike, 6 would be a good guess.
No way to actually tell the size, but this should fit and more likely be a bit big than small.

Well my girlfriend is 5'2" and about 122 pounds, and she's a size 6. So I'd guess a size 5 would be a safe bet for you.

It's really hard to judge finger sized based on weight because you have to factor in knuckle size. I'm the same weight but two inches taller and my ring is a 4.5 simply because a smaller band wouldn't even fit over my huge knuckle even though my ring isn't entirely snug as is once it's on. I'd definetly go with Nicrez's suggestion and get a simple setting that can easily be sized down and try a 5.5 or 6.

Hi,

Based on the info, she is going to be around a size 4.5 - 5

Since you are guessing, and since it is better to guess bigger than smaller (we want it to go on her finger) I would have it made 5 1/4

Do you not have anyone you could ask to do a little recon for you? Maybe a friend could ask her to look at rings "for fun" or just wander into a jewelry store while at the mall, and then get sized just, ya know, because they're already there. Or maybe she has a ring that a friend could try on to at least get an idea of which finger of the friend is about the same, and then figure out what size that is.

My fiance asked me what size my finger was, and yes, I knew why he was asking, so maybe you don't want her to know anything, but I'm glad the ring didn't need to be resized after that. I wouldn't want to part with it for that long!

My sister is 5'2" but more like 130, and her finger is 4.75. She wears a 5 1/2 shoe. I wear a 7 or 7 1/2 shoe and a size 6 ring, so maybe you can guess a size or so smaller than her shoe size? I think feet and fingers would be more related than fingers and general height and weight. Maybe we can compare other people's shoe and finger size to determine if there is a correlation.

Who knew that the old saying *If the shoe fits, Wear it* was referring to diamond rings!

Have her try on fitted leather gloves.

hehe - sometimes the shoe doesn't fit - my shoe size is 3.5 sizes bigger than my finger size! I agree with Phoenixgirl, it's much better to sneak out a ring - or, if you're stealthy and she's a sound sleeper, you can gently wrap a string around her finger while she's sleeping, and then find out what ring size the string's length corresponds to.

Well, I'm 5'9" and 145 pounds, and I'm somewhere under 5, I believe. It just goes to show that it's very, very hard to guess these things.

I'll agree with Lea, I've made more remakes than I care to admit because people guessed on the size. One size definitely does not fit all. As PhoenixGirl says, have a friend check out those cheap silver rings at a mall with her. Have them get sized at a real jeweler 'just for fun.'
