hi
i am finally ready and able to pursue my five stone "mommy ring" that i want so desperately-it will be five diamonds, i wear a size 7 and wondered how big is too big for stones-i tried on a tiffany ring in chicago last year and it was 5 .55 pointers and looked fabulousl but i want something with even more umpphhhh!!!! i am thinking about .70 pointers-does this sound reasonable for finger coverage and comfort? i am sooo happy to have to chance to have such a ring and have wanted a mother''s ring for soooo long, i want to make this a one of a kind ring....thanks for opinions and input!

You know what I''d do? I would try and go to local jewellers and try out rings with stones of that size or if possible, get loose stones of that size and put them on yr finger and see how they look. Or someone on here can do photoshop for you, perhaps.

I would imagine that with such large stones, the sides stones may go around yr finger and might possibly be a little uncomfortable. Would that bother you? Just something to think about.

Oh, I just read again and noticed that you tried on the five 55 pointers stone ring from Tiffany''s and liked it, then I would imagine that the 70 pointers would not be *too* much larger.

thanks phoenix,
i know a true "visual'' of the stones on the finger would be the best way to go in this case. i spoke to the jeweler and he already has made a mock wax so that (i''m assuming) when i go (it''s out of state) we can try some stones in it and i can see for myself-i just don''t want to get stones too small and dh said "whatever i want" so i have the green light to pursue the size of stone that will look the best. merci

You''re very welcome.

Trying it on with a mock wax would be fantastic, you''d know for sure.

I hope you decide to get it, sounds fabulous.

maisie,
our family has been through a lot the last 3 years(major illness, etc) and now my dh was blessed with a great opportunity-he''s the strong, silent type, very much the traditional provider and yet he''s the most generous guy i know, so i am blessed and can''t wait till i get my special ring.
ps i love your avatar(and your sweet little one-didn''t you used to have his picture as avatar?)

This is so fun! I think too big will be if the stones cover so much of your finger that they "overhang" on the sides and start scratching your other fingers. I would aim for stones that cover the entire top of your fingers and then stop IMO. Mostly because I hate scratchy rings!

my 5 stone has .50-.54cts and i''m also a size 7 and it already looks huge to me :D.

think .70 pointers would look ENORMOUS (but in a good way)

. Only thing i''d worry about is the side stones digging into my other fingers.

I agree with Elle. I think 70 pointers are going to be too wide for your finger unless you go with 4 stones or something. That might be uncomfortable, too. I really think the .55 range will be as wide as you can do on a size 7 without the stones overhanging. I think I couldn''t do more than .40 on my 5.5 size.

I saw a 5 stone oval shaped diamond ring and it was incrediable, maybe you can get your size without the diamonds wrapping around you finger too far, just at thought.

ooooohhhhhhhhh...Now yer talkin''! If you used ovals it would take up less finger width, but, use more finger length. I think it would be gorgeous! That would be SOME band!

thanks gals! you know, i''ve thought about ovals in the past(for a future bracelet) and maybe i''ll bring it up to the jeweler...don''t know ANYthing about cut of an oval tho(except the "bow tie") i am very excited about this project. elle chris-your ring is one of my "inspirations" for such a ring-it''s just gorgeous and i really want a ring that stands alone. i have looked at mother''s rings for so long and had some ideas in my head but really, there''s nothing like a diamond band that speaks more to THIS momma

ps i am also super blessed to have inside out hoops being made as well. i work with a jeweler out of state so have to drive back to PA on June 20th to meet him and discuss...i''m very excited that dh is sooo generous to me.(did i mention i gave him FIVE terrific kids? it''s not like he owes me or anything

pss i hope to have my college daughter post pics once both projects are finished. i am 1000% computer illiterate.
thanks again!

Is the 5 stone ring for the 5 children then?

I think .70 x 5 in RBs would take up a lot of finger space. I think either 4 RBs or 5 Ovals might look better.

I am gonna go a bit against the grain here

.

I have a 3 stone ring with a 0.90ct-ish centre and 2 side stones which I have been told is 0.60ct each but personnally I think they''re more like 0.70ct each. I know the centre stone is about 0.90-0.95ct (I had it weighed when I bought it) and remember it was definitely not less than 0.90ct. It is not cut deep either, in fact i think it is ideally cut or at least a very good cut. The side stones do not look that much smaller than the centre stone and yet my 3-stone ring does not cover my entire finger width, particularly as I wear it on my right hand, which is size 5.25-5.50.

The attached picture (with the 3-stone ring flanked by two eternity) shows the ring on my left finger which is 4.25-4.50 in size and yet the ring still does not cover the entire width of my e-ring finger either (well, almost but not quite).

So my point is this: five 0.70ct stones will not necessarily be too big or will scratch the sides of yr finger. You will know when you try on the mould though.

I will say this though: I LOOOOVEEEE

the idea of a 5 oval stone ring!! Great idea, Dinsky!

ETA: Well, I''ve tried several times to post the picture but it does not post!!
