This is interesting. I was just about to post two princess diamonds as well to get the boards opinion: (what''s also funny is I''ve decided on a white gold, x prong)

This is the one that I liked:
http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_details.aspx?idno=2368129
Item Code: 9821409
Report: GIA
Carat: 0.73
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
Depth: 72
Table: 71
Girdle: STK-TK
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 4.91-4.83X3.48
Length/Width: 1.02

BUT, White Flash REALLY recommended this one over the one above.

http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_details.aspx?idno=2360701
Item Code: 9740519
Report: AGS
Carat: 0.740
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 73.7
Table: 68
Girdle: TN-TN P
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 4.99-4.94X3.64
Length/Width: 1.01

Anybody tell me why one is so much better than the other?

Any advice would be great. Thanks!

well, the second appears to have an ags report. it could just be that it is a better performer with the paper to prove it.

Thanks again for the insight belle!

princess cuts!

Is it wise to follow this purchase up with an appraisal? To get it appraised do I need to have the ring seperate (not mounted)? I think I can get WF to view the ring for me before they send it.

I think that the second probably has an AGS-DQR, not a DQD, and that as such, offers no more info than the GIA-report.

Only WF can clarify why they prefer 2 over 1.

Live long,

Neither stone apears to be in-hose - so did not seem good enough for them to buy themselves.

Their inhouse stones are going to safely be better looking - but likely cost more (guess why?)

Maybe ask them to call their prefernce in for testing ideal-scope etc?

Gary,

Is ideal-scope something that is routinely done? Any other option I should ask them? Their website says that they will look at the diamond before it goes out.

They clarified that they liked the second diamond because it had a good table 68%. Thus more sparkle.

I''m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but from the posts I''ve read, having a thin girdle has often been criticised in princess cuts. There have been posts about thin girldled princess stones which chipped too easily. The 2nd stone you list appears to have a thin girdle, so you might want to consider that before you take the plunge on that stone.

Good luck.........
