Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has ever been on a horse riding holiday in South America. Probably a total long shot but I just thought I would ask just in case!

Thanks!

I''m no help, but you may want to try posting over in the Hangout section as well...I think a lot of travel threads get posted there.

Thanks Sabine!

i saw a fab documentary film titled 20,000 MILES ON A HORSE a few years ago. two guys rode from the south of chile/argentina to prudhoe bay, alaska. fascinating! i do not think this is the type of trip you had in mind nor do i think you''d want to encounter some of the dangers/situaitons that they did. my understanding is that there are a lot of ranches that now cater to gringos in search of horse adventure and i''d be inclined to go that route.

We''re going to Argentina next year and we were looking at going to one of the ranches to go horse-riding.

where in south america are you going?

We are thinking visiting Argentina and Uruguay in late October for 3 weeks. I love horse riding and he loves nature so he suggested we go on a horse riding trek for 5 days to a week. I have been searching the web for a while to try and find someone to take us and have found this company Safari Riding who we can do a 8 day trip across Uruguay or a 5 day trip across Indian Bay in Argentina.

October/November seems like a nice time (weather wise) to go. Or is it? Will it be warm enough for the beach? Am I crazy considering doing this? Sorry my thoughts are all over the place, and I am useless when it comes to planning a trip. I really need to find out more about Argentina and Uruguay and what other things we have to do/see there! Any suggestions? I don''t even know where to start!

just do it: don''t over think it. it will be spring there when you go, Smo.

Are you regular riders? Something to consider - riding a horse for a couple hours if you are not conditioned to do it can become quite uncomfortable!

I grew up riding/showing, but haven't ridden regularly for years. Went horseback riding for 3 hours in Costa Rica a few months ago and could not wait to get off that horse. I even commented to my husband as we were nearing the end of the ride - "imagine if we had booked a multi-day trek on horseback? I'd be crying right now."

something to consider!
