So i shipped my fiancee's engagement ring mid last week to pearlmans to get resized by memoire and it still hasnt arrived yet. i went to the us postel service and had the ring shipped us registered mail and had it insured; i was told this was the most secure method by the post office and i let them know that this was time sensitive and it had to arrive asap. they could not ship it overnight since the insurance on overnight packages does not go over 5,000. this was shipped priority which the post office employee told me would take 2-3 days. long story short... the post office employee was wrong and my package could take awhile to arrive since it is going thru registered mail possibly 10 days and there is no guarantee on when it actually arrives.

so a week later it hasnt arrived and i have been in constant contact with the post office and they are trying to locate the whereabouts of the ring but do not know exactly what hub it is located. so now im not just upset that the ring resizing is geting heavily delayed but the fact they are still trying to locate the ring.. i want peace of mind that they have it.

anyone else ever go through a situation like this? going forward and looking back on things i would def just shipped it overnight with the basic 5,000 insurance. i hope the ring arrives tomorrow.. my fiancee is on a family vacation and she gave me the ring to get resized thinkin that it would be done by the time she got back in a week and a half or 2 weeks.. because of this issue its been a week and they havent even gotten it.. damn it!

ahhh i had to vent and wanted to see if anyone when through something like this..

Registered mail IS the most secure way to ship. I have used it many times to ship diamonds/rings back and forth. I don''t remember it taking a really long time to arrive, but as far as I know, the person carrying it is totally responsible for the item at each checkpoint. So, hopefully, it will arrive at Pearlman''s very soon!

I feel sorry for your position. I really don''t trust the USPS in shipping valuable items anymore -- Seems like it is becoming more and more unreliable (No offense to any USPS workers, as I''m sure you do your job well, its just that others don''t sometimes).

I had a similar experience shipping my setting to Whiteflash to get the center stone set. I shipped it registered/insured and it took at least 5-6 days, maybe a full week, to arrive. Meanwhile, when I called the post office, they said they do not track the package each step of the way, they only know when it was logged in at the sending post office, and when it arrives. I was VERY relieved to get the email from WF that it had arrived safely.

On the other hand, WF Fed Ex-ed it back to me once the stone was in. Their insurance covered the return shipping.

Don''t fret too much, the ring will probably arrive any time.

When I shipped my diamond using USPS I remember them telling me it would be 7-10 days. Did they tell you otherwise?

My experience with shipping via USPS registered, insured mail is that it is very safe. The package must be signed for each and everytime it leaves someone''s hands. However, the downside of it is that it takes longer to get there than UPS/Fed Ex, etc. I know it is nerve wracking but I''m sure it will arrive in due time, safe and sound. If for some reason it didn''t, they will know exactly where in the process it went missing and because it is insured, you''re covered.

I actually had something stolen/lost through UPS so will always choose the more secure method offered by USPS.

Good luck and let us know when it arrives!

I had to ship my stone to Danhov to be set in my ring and they would only accept it via USPS Registered mail. I was told it could take a week or longer to get there, even though it was only going from Utah to California. I was lucky as it only took four days, but I was a nervous wreck waiting for the status to update online. Even then the only thing it reported was Accepted. Finally I signed up for email notification and received an email once it arrived and was "accepted at unit" and "delivered".

I hope everything turns out okay and that you insured the package for the full value of the ring so if *God forbid* it is lost you''ll at least be able to recoup the costs. I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you, please keep us updated!

I shipped my loose diamonds to WF via insured registered mail and my package took ten days to go from NY to Texas. I was sitting on pins and needles too. Don''t panic. Sometimes it happens.

Ditto. Shipped USPS registered insured from VA to TX (to Whiteflash) and it took 10 loooooooooooooooooong days to get there!

Please try not to worry about the ring; I''m sure it''s safe and just following standard movement.

I feel badly that the P.O. employee told you 2-3 days; most quote 7-10 for registered insured movement because the package is placed under lock/key when it''s not actually moving.

I''m sure Pearlman''s will let you know as soon as it arrives.

They told me 2-3 days also!! I was getting very concerned before I talked to someone else at the post office who said it could take as long as 10 days.

I had a recent experience see this thread.

Here''s what I''ve learned - they''ll say priority mail/registered takes only 2-3 days. But the reality is it takes 5-7 days because it travels under lock and key.

I also learned the 1-800 number does not know ANYTHING, they only recite the policy, but they can''t actually tell you where it is.

If I were you I would not get too worried yet. If it hasn''t arrived by Monday, then I would check online (which will show you the last scanned point). After 15 days you can file a trace.

That said, in spite of their poor ability to communicate the status to the public, registered mail is in fact the safest because it travels under lock and key every step of the way and internally they have to sign for it.

I completely understand your panic, because I just went through the same thing. It''s scary but I''m sure it will work out. I''ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Registered/insured mail is the best way to go. It is slow...not matter what they say...but it will get there safely!

thanks for the vote of confidence. im just upset because my fiancee didnt want to be without the ring for too long anways. i wasted a week a half so far just on transit with this. what i should have gotten done was to have the ring shipped overnight with 5,000 insurance that is allowed - they allow tracking for this service level at usps.

im never going to ship through them again. horrible experience. the workers there dont know shit and arent helpful. no one can even follow up on the paper trail that they are suppose to have. all i know is that the package left washington. i have no idea why it was there for 8 days. WTF. i live in virginia thats just 1 state where its been sitting and it has to go to michigan.

this is rediculous. im sure itll arrive but so damn rediculous

Feel your pain...Going through the exact same thing right now...Sending a ring to a jeweler to be reset...Shipped it out on Monday the 14th and as of right now it's still only showing "Accepted"...I was also told that Registered Priority would take 2-3 days. Called the 1800# to no avail

Does anyone know if all of these online vendors get a special deal from the major shipping companies? I was quoted over $500.00 to ship from NY to LA priority overnight with ~$23,000.00 of insurance. But yet, most if not all of the PS vendors ship for free to customers on priority overnight. And I got a quote from WF for $100.00 to ship the ring back...Granted it's coming from Houston instead of NY, but still that's quite a bit of difference between the two quotes...

Let's say next time I want to ship FedEx or UPS, will my insurance from JM or Chubb cover it?

I shipped a ring via registered mail, and it took 8 days. They didn''t update the progress - just the date I turned it over to the post office and the date it arrived at Whiteflash. The entire time it was gone, the website indicated "received at X location." I freaked out in the meantime, but the people at the post office told me that they don''t update it for security reasons. I was a nervous week until I was notified that it got there.
