Wasn’t surprised when I saw all of the complaints posted about this store given the experience I had. I wanted to get sizing balls for my ring as there are no half sizes and a 5 was too uncomfortable and a 6 too big. I haven''t worn my ring for several months and decided to take it in there last Saturday to have it done. I left the ring with them, in the original box that was presented to me when my boyfriend proposed, bow and all. I was so excited to pick it up. Well, the "sizing balls" they put in there are not at all what I had seen with other rings that have them. It looks as if they sottered (sp) two tiny, tiny bumps on the inside of my ring. I do not know how anyone doing the work on this could even begin to think they what they did would make my ring fit any better. It was a joke. The girl who waited on me this past weekend was very inexperienced and every thing I had told her, should repeat to me the complete opposite. I finally had to talk to a Manager. They were going to charge me $60 for the sizing and then realize it was my first time having it sized and it was free. After explain to them for the umpteenth time I wanted the sizing balls, they said that was $70.00 and had me pay the $10 difference, which I did. The girl who waited on me had fitted me at around a 5.5 and you would think they would use that gauge when putting on the sizing balls. I have no idea what they used, as it seemed like they just did it blindly and played a guessing game. The Manager''s explanation to this was that "sometimes we have to do it a couple of times to get it right when using the sizing balls". Not only did my ring still not fit, but they lost the box my fiancé had presented to me with the ring when he proposed. It still had the original bow and all. I''ve managed to have this ring box travel with us from LA to Napa, to New Jersey, to Michigan, and then back to LA over a period of 3 years. I leave it at RB in Torrance for 2 days and they screw the whole thing up and lose a sentimental piece of the package. The Manager offered to reimburse me for the $10 (big deal, I''m not hard up for 10 bucks). I am beyond disappointed and very saddened by the experience and left the store in tears.

You are learning how to face adversity. It isn''t easy and I am sure many who read your posting will be sympathetic with you. Getting sizing balls should not have been a big problem and it is unfortunate that you were the exception. Robbins Brothers has a very aggressive policy to attract and keep consumers, but there must be instances where something adverse happens when so many people are being waited on. Every person is entitled to good service and occasionally even the most diligent program to host customers well goes wrong. I feel for you.

I hope others reading this understand that when you go into any retailer looking for alterations and repairs to bring only your jewelry in, not your storage box. Boxes are bulky and often damaged and lost. Jewelers realize that there could be some minor, or more major, sentimental attachment to these boxes and if they become lost, there is not much anyone can do. Leave these at home in a safe place. It is better for everyone.

When you get sizing balls, be sure to try on the ring sizers several times to best establish the actual, past the knuckle, finger size. The jeweler then knows how large to make the balls in order to get the right feeling for the finger size which really fits you. It is a matter of feeling and not sizing. A good jeweler knows what to do once given proper instructions. No doubt, some counter help may not be prepared to properly help a consumer select the correct size for sizing ball installation. Get a senior member of the staff or one of their in-house jewelers to assist you instead if you have doubts on the competance of the employee assigned to you.

I took in some very nice eye glasses to have the RX re filled and I brought them in with their original case and it disappeared and they gave me my glasses with some awful generic case that obviously didn''t come with my glasses. Luckily I went back to the place I bought the glasses from and they gave me a new case but the lesson was NEVER let a store take your case (assuming you love it). I''m sorry you lost yours. If it was me, I''d raise a bit more hell until they find it. I mean honestly, it''s got to be somewhere, right?

Ugh. RB, Torrance - many have had unfavorable experiences at that particular store (meaning that particular location of the chain). I am so sorry, I know you must be so sad to lose something sentimental.

Ugh, sorry to hear that.

And yes, RB Torrance is absolutely, bar none the most awful place. I know other mall stores have worse stuff, but I''ve never met more swindlers and hustlers than I have at the RB store. One guy assured me that a rectangle cushion would look fine in the settling I currrently have and they could do it in the store. I''m looking at it and thiningk, absolutely no way would it fit and look decent. If you act like you know anything, they are even more condescending. I was in there several times before I got engaged and a couple of times after (to look for settings for my mom''s ring). Honestly, I''ve given up going in there even to look, because I hate hearing what they tell other people.

wow, sorry to hear that, but i''m kinda glad i''ve read this

my girl and i went to morgans (the one in torrance) the other week, and were very satisfied with their help (just looking at e-rings). Didn''t purchase anything and probably won''t use them but they seemed honest and reliable, at least Bill did. I was thinking about visiting RB just to take a look inside, but i won''t even bother after reading this.

I''m so sorry this had happened to you. I don''t like them either, each trip is a bad experience of itself. I use Sing''s Jewelry down the street on Hawthrone, towards PCH. All my experience there has been great, and their price is a lot more reasonable.

What a shame, I am so sorry that this happened to you.
