Hello everyone!

I just found this forum and I''m so excited! My BF and I have started our search for my engagement ring. I had an idea of what I wanted, and as soon as we started to look, everything changed!! I live on Long Island, which is close to the city, so I think next week sometime we are going to go down to the diamond district. Most of the places we called, were only open during the week, so we''re both going to take a day off.

Are there any places that you guys would suggest to definitely go? Do you buy the center stone seperately? Is it more costly to purchase a ring that is already set?

The two styles that I am debating on, are a cushion cut (2.5ct) with two half moons on the side.
OR a cushion cut on a beautiful pave simple band. I am going to attempt to put up a pic of the first one...

I would love any suggestions that you guys would have.

Thanks!!!

As you are on Long Island and want to see 'live' examples I would suggest a trip to Good Old Gold (Massapequa). They are a PS vendor, active on these forums, and can give you a great exhibition in person.

It's best to call and make an appointment - I'd suggest setting up a visit with Jonathan or Tim.

Here''s a 3rd for GOG! Heard great things, and they''re local for you!

(And both of your settings options sound fabulous!)

I also live on Long Island and recently purchased a beautiful antique style three-stone ring from Good Old Gold. (I wish I could post a pic but all my photos came out terrible and I''m one of the last people on earth who doesn''t own a digital.)

But I digress... I really liked the store and found the salespeople knowledgeable and friendly.

I would also suggest you take a look at all the "eye candy" threads and "Show me your _____" threads on the Show Me the Ring board. The more I looked, more I found myself loving settings that I ordinarily would not have considered. (I love the halo/pavé settings as well as Mara''s asscher.)

Good luck and have fun!

kateh,
If you''re on Long Island it''s a no-brainer. Jonathan at Good Old Gold should be your first stop. I recently had the pleasure of meeting him and he''s as solid an individual as they come (and a very well-respected, long-time contributer to this forum).
Best of luck to you!

If you go to their website, you can get directions....do call ahead and make an appointment....I understand it gets VERY busy in there!!!

I''m in the minority here, but having gone to GOG and not being very impressed, I would try David S. Diamonds, they''re open on Saturdays, so make an appt. Beautiful diamonds, and large selection of settings, and if they don''t have it, they''ll make it!

Good luck.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! I am definitely going to check out GOG. Does anyone know if they are open on saturdays?

lily- where is david s diamonds? Is that where you got your ring?

As far as going into manhattan... no one has any suggestions? Has anyone heard of the jewelery DeNatale? I love some of their pieces.

DeNatale has some very pretty pieces I think BlueDawgs rings are from there.

GOG is open on saturday''s but it''s best to call ahead and make an appointment. That is probably their busiest day of the week and if you can go during the week that would be better IMHO. Good luck and keep us posted on your search!!!

GOG is a wonderful place and Jon will do you right! I would also suggest Mark T in NYC. He''s also a lovely man that I trust completely. He didn''t let me down with my cushion...and Reena''s cushion and lots of other cushions around here! I''m sure you''ll find just what you want from either vendor!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am going to call GOG today and see if I can make an appointment.

More, does Mark T have a website?

Before you buy anything, tell us what offers you got. As someone who spends a LOT of time in the diamond district, there are a lot of rip-offs.
