Hello!

My google searches for information on diamonds keep leading me here, so I thought I might as well as ask for opinions on the diamond I am looking at!

GIA Certified
Carat:0.90
Color: I color
Clarity: VS 2
Depth: 63
Table: 57
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very good
Cut: Very Good
Girdle is Faceted Thin to Slight Thick
No Fluorescence
Measurements: 6.13 x 6.05 x 3.86 mm
Price: $4200

As a total amateur in the diamond buying field any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The depth is a little deep, we usually suggest staying below 62.3, otherwise their is hidden weight and the stone will face up smaller than diamonds will similar weight. Other than that, there isn't much more we can tell you without some more information. Do you have the report #? Can you get the crown and pavilion angels of the stone?

Thanks Christina! I did get the other info:

Crown Angle: 36 degrees
Pavilion angle: 41 degrees
Star length: 50%

We generally suggest nothing but excellent cut grade stones, and this VG cut stone is no exception. With the numbers you gave, it's predicted to be a poor performing stone. I'd avoid it and perhaps you can tell the board what you're looking for and what your budget is?

An excellent cut may be a ton more expensive, but have you looked at an .85ct with a 59% depth that may fall in the same price range but you can get a better made stones that has the same mm measurements, maybe even bigger.

I'd like to keep the stone under $4500. Like I'm sure everyone guy looking for an engagement rings says, want it to be close to 1 carat.

Haven't looked at .85 stones too much, limited most of my searches to .9+, but that is an interesting idea if the dimensions are similar.

I actually don't think that you're looking at a huge price increase for a GIA EX as opposed to a GIA VG, maybe a few hundred dollars, and very well worth it, even if you had to come down a color or clarity grade. I'll take a look around for you and post a couple of option to see what you think. BRB

Ok, there is a lot going on in the stone, but the cut is really good and it's an SI1 so it's possible that it will face up clean but you will have to ask. Also if any of these stones appeal to you, put them on hold immediately. Lurkers very often snatch up recommended stones. It's not fair, or in the spirit of PS, but it does happen. :nono:

this is a 60/60 type cut and has a bit of a different visual appearance than a more HA type cut, but it's over a carat faces up very large and scores well on the HCA, and will likely be a bright well performing stone. It's a J, so you will need to decide if you are willing to sacrifice color for size.

all of these need to be evaluated for eye cleanliness and need idealscope images.

Thanks! Called James Allen and the confirmed it was eye clean, so I just bought that 1.01 diamond!

Now going to get it appraised when it gets here to make sure it checks out.

Thanks so much for all your help!!!
