I am so mad...
sorry if this is TMI...and please let me know if it''s inappropriate (or delete if it is)...but I need some advice!

My Honeymoom starts on the 24th of Feb....and so does my cycle..

I don''t know what to do!. I am on the pill. I tried one time to keep taking it traight and that didn''t really work because I got it any way.

So what do I do??. Could I stop the pill now so I force my cycle to start Thursday and then start the next set of pills this Sunday?. If that works then it should be a week early (but still present for the wedding!)...arghhh...

Or do I keep taking the pill and hope that it works?...maybe last time I tried it I wasn''t taking it at the same excat time every day??

Thanks in advance!

M~

hi there! can''t belive it''s so close for you...couple weeks right?

since i''ve started educating myself on TTC (trying to conceive..just researching so far), it''s never TMI.
I would suggest continuing to take the pill straight through (take next pack instead of sugar pills on your last week). I did the same thing during my HM (when you consider it''s a 2 wk HM, there''s a good chance AF will arrive at some point if you''re regular). However you may want to run this by your doctor first to be safe.

You may still get your period but it should be just spotting...which is better than the full thing. It''s hard to take it at the same exact time when you''re travelling, with time differences, etc.

i''m excited for ya!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! How exciting you are thinking about babies!!! We''ll start trying in a year or so. I can''t wait!! :)

1 month to go!!! I am SO excited!

So should I finish this pack and start normally? (last pill would be this coming Saturday). My next pack would start on 2/3 and that one is the one that I would continue straight...right?

keep taking all your pills straight through minus the placebos. They will alter your hormone levels. The first month you do it, you may get one heavy day but to continue to take them anyways. Then you should be ok...maybe some spotting but you should be better off than nothing...

Have a good honeymoon

if I dont talk to you before then!!

Anytime I go on holidays and it''s due, I always run two packs together and it''s been fine. If you still got AF last time you ran two packs together, I would give your doctor a call and see what they suggest. There''d be nothing worse than getting it on your honeymoon.

oh...so don''t stop this Sunday either??
I''m confused...

Thank you for all the advice!! I''m still waiting for my Dr to call me back...

well i can''t tell you specific dates, but count out how many pills you have left in your pack to determine when your next period will start. If that''s around when your wedding/HM is, then start the new pack when you would normally begin the sugar pills (which is which usually kicks off your period).

If you count out what''s left in this pack and it''s weeks before your wedding, then count out the next one and same thing..if it falls on your Wedding/ HM, start the next pack when you would normally commence sugar pills for that cycle.

ok, this is what I have done before. Stop taking your pill a few weeks before you are suppose to start the sugar pills. That should cause your period to come early and then start over. Works for me. Just be extra careful so you don''t get preggo. Honeymoon + Period = no fun! Plan ahead.

Hello,
As long as you are not on a birth control that has different levels of hormones throughout the month (ortho tri-cyclen, Alesse, just to name a few) then it is ok to continue and "bi-cycle" your pills, which is what I often do. This does not work if you are on a pill with varying levels of hormones throughout the month. Sometimes if I start to have too much breakthrough, I will start my period early therefore only having 4-5 weeks of active pills. You still have enough time to play around with it though. Just be extra careful! You don''t have to take 2 whole packs, as long as you take it consistently. Based on your time frame I would keep taking my pill until Feb 9th have your period the following week that way you would be in the free and clear for your wedding and honeymoon.

I am a pharmacist by the way!

I have talked to my doctor about doing this... Apparently, if you are on a pill that has three different levels of hormones, taking the pill continuously may not work to stop your period. However, if you are on a continuous dosage, it will probably work. I have tried it with both and found this to be true. There are quite a few articles on it... Good Luck!

Thank you !!

This is so helpful!

I am on orthotrycyclen...maybe that''s why in the past when I tried to continue the pill staright it didn''t work.

So...would it be ok if:

This Saturday take my last pill for this cycle. Get my period on Mon-Tue. Start my next package on Sunday (2/3) as I normally would. Then stop that pack on 2/10...hopefully get my period by 2/12 and start again with Pill#1 from next pack being on Sunday 2/17...and continue normally?

So:

2/27 - Last pill from this pack
2/29 - Period
2/3 - Start new pack
2/10 - Stop that pack
2/12 - Period (hopefully)
2/17 - New pack
and continue...

Right?

Sorry, my questions probably sound really stupid...but I want to ensure I don''t have it!....

Thanks again

Yeah, that is why going straight through won''t work (different levels every week). I would try to change it NOW so you don''t worry about it later. Plus it can sometimes be annoying when you change things around (ie longer period, spotting, etc...) so get that over with now so you can relax before your wedding. Good luck.

Thanks Tacori..
what do you mean change it now?

Thanks Tacori..

what do you mean change it now?

Don''t start your pack on 2/3 if that is when you *should*. Try to alter it now just in case you get a delayed or extra long period (or other negative symptoms). That way by your honeymoon your body is already adjusted.

that''s just the soonest I could if I want to change it...since today is the 22nd and my period will come on the 28th/29th. I already took today''s pill. If I don''t take it tomorrow then I would get it on the 25th...so are you saying start the next pack on Sun 2/27? just 2 days after the period?...then that would make my period come on Tuesday and the wedding it''s friday...
14.gif

what I was saying was stopping the second pack on 2/10 and starting the new one on 2/17...when in reality I would have had to finish the pack on the 24th and start it on 3/2.
Now I''m confused...lol...too many dates in my brain!

I am confused too! Haha! I guess I didn''t even know what today''s date was. I am sure you thought it out. It should work. I did it many times before.

Girl, are you a MONTH away from your wedding?

Dang, time flies!

Have fun girl!!!!

No advice on how to change the cycle... I hope someone has some excellent advice for you, though!!

Don''t take your placebo pills this month, just start the next ccyle. You will still bleed this month but you will have shifted your next period forward by a week, hopefully avoiding the problem.

Thank you guys!!!!!!!

Fisher - I Know!!! Time flies by!!! One month...it''s just crazy to think about it! Seems like yesterday I was introducing myself in the LIW forum

Thank you all for your advice!!!. I think I will do the forced period early and then start the new cycle. Hopefully it works (fingers crossed!) otherwise instead of the sexy PJs I''ll be wearing the long and comfy pants with shirt

hey..i usually just take 2 packets straight thru without any break pills...so my BC is 21 pills and i usually have a 7 day break and then start the next pack...when i dont want to get my period, i just continue the second pack immediately after i finish my last pill of the 1st pack (no break).

To be honest i have read many times that you should NOT shorten the length ur taking ur pills but u can extend it. in other words, if ur pack has 21 pills, then you should NOT stop at day 18 or 19 or watever as that seriously reduces the effectivness of the pill (even after u start ur next pack)..what you CAN do is either increase the duration by taking 22 or 23 or 24 pills for example to stop ''later'' than usual OR to ''lessen'' the break period to change the day ur cycle starts...so you finish ur 21 days/pills, instead of a 7 day break, u have a 5 day break and start ur next pack then.

this is my 2 cents, but id be weary about messing with the ''duration'' of the pill taking as i would NOT want to risk getting preggo if i was not TTC...

Mandarine...

I would definitely reccommend just finishing this months pack, skipping the placebos, and starting the next pack right away so you can skip your period this month....I am assuming you have been on bc for awhile? If so, you will probably have less breakthrough bleeding if you just attempt to skip your period than if you just stop taking the pills now, induce a period, and then start again....

If you just go from one pack to another, you MAY have some breakthrough bleeding, but most likely it will be minimal....Dont worry, there is no risk or potetital problems associated with skipping a period....

Good luck!

Nicole-

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Alesse a monophasic bcp?

Before they banned me from taking the pill because of my migraines, I always took at least 6 months worth of packs one after another.

My uncle is one of the leading gynaecologists in the UK, and I checked it out with him. His advice was the only reason for having a break was either to check you weren''t pregnant or because you felt you needed your cycle for ''pschological'' reasons (some people don''t feel female without apparently.) Otherwise keep taking the pill as long as you like.

I used to take Yasmin - which was amazing. Makes your skin super-perfect - and no weight gain.

Could you switch to a new brand at the end of this cycle and the beginning of the next?

I''m trying to work out what I can do if I am in the same position now that I can''t have the pill - I''m hoping uncle has some wonder drug with no oestrogen!

I am entirely confused, but let''s try to explain this one so our gal has a happy honeymoon.

If you ordinarily start your sugar pills (days 22 to 28) this Sunday, as an example, don''t take them. Toss them. Immediately start your next pack of pills. You might not have a period at all, maybe spotting, maybe regular. It does not matter. The key is that your next period should not be until your next set of sugar pills, which will be a week earlier.

Have we got this straight now!!!!

What an important thought. I thought about this years ago...when my grandmother told me about how when she worked for the hospital (as a nurse) a woman called regarding this. There was nothing at that time (years ago) that could be done....

So when I picked my wedding date, I made sure it wouldn''t fall during that time...Hope it works

Best of luck regarding this...it is a big issue (I think

).

Alesse is technically a monophasic but it has different placebo week than other BC''s with small doses of estrogen in order to help with PMS symptoms, I usually don''t recommend bi or tri cycling it for that reason...

Mandarine,

My experience has also been to skip the placebos and go straight into the next pack and you should be okay...maybe a little spotting, some bloating, etc., but otherwise should be a-okay.

I also tried to plan my wedding around my period so I will just be coming off from it the Sat. before (wedding is on a Tuesday)... I take Yasmin and have had a lot better luck with it than previous pills, but as I''ve had endometriosis and currently have fibroids on my uterus, my period leaves me feeling very bloated and nauseous, I get horrible migraines and my flow lasts almost an entire week, so I did NOT want to have to deal with it for my wedding or honeymoon...nice way to pick a wedding date, huh?

Sadly, my cycle has been messed up for years depending on health issues and stress, so no telling what''s going to happen when the time comes! I am keeping my fingers crossed, tho!

Best of luck, my friend! I hope it works out for you!
