I sent in the first 2 photos to have a halo custom made for my rectangular shaped cushion. In my very detailed email to the designer I stated that I wanted little to no metal/prongs showing and for the band & halo to be small and dainty just like the inspiration photos. The last two photos are of the setting I just received. Honest thoughts/opinions - How would you react?

Nice! Makes your already huge cushion, even bigger! are there diamonds on the side view of the halo too, couldn't really tell by the last photo. I was surprised to see the airline in the last photo, but maybe this gives better access to your center stone for cleaning :-)

I'd be slightly disappointed that there was as much metal as there is, but I'd be livid a out the gap between the stone and the halo. I dont consider that an esthetic airline like some halos have. The halo should hug the stone, not sit under it like that.

I'm sorry if it's not what you asked for. Do they have a return policy? How do YOU feel

I do not think it looks dainty nor do I care for the large gap between the center stone and halo. Your stone is gorgeous though!

I agree with Niel- the space between the halo and the diamond would not work for me. I would definitely ask them to refund or remake the ring. Halos when done well look amazing and when done poorly distract from the beauty of the center stone. Good luck with the remake- I am sure others here can provide recommendations but I would definitely be very engaged with the process whether done with the original jeweler or a new one.

When I saw the first picture of your ring, I thought that it was lovely (although probably a bit more chunky-looking than I would prefer) - then I saw the side shot & the rather large gap in between the halo and the center stone…. I have never seen that before and I wouldn't be pleased if it was my ring. Sorry that happened to you:(

The big gap between the halo and diamond would really bother me. I'm sorry. I hope you can either get your $ back, or that they fix it.

If I was expecting the first photo and received what you got, I would be pretty upset. It doesn't look much like the inspiration photo.

That second photo, oh boy, the girdle of the diamond should rest just IN the halo, not hovering above it.

Be aware though, most jewelers are not capable of creating the halo that you pictured first. If you want top quality you're going to pay for it. Most people go to Victor Canera, Stephen Kirsh, or Leon Mege.

^Some of us have used ERD for halos too with superb results =)

That gap is called an airline.

And to me this doesn't look like a full custom job, but a stock setting that was redone to fit the specs of the stone but not done very well as it is plopped on top.

Is it, really, though?

From my understanding, an airline was a lateral gap between the halo and the stone, IOW, from a top down view there's a visible gap. Thats not the case with this setting. The girdle and the halo still usually fall on the same plane. From the first pic it appears to be (trying) to fit the halo to the edge of the stone. I bet if we got a profile view the stone would be noticeably higher

oh boy...that's a huge gap...i would not accept that unless it's what you've asked for. from the pictures you've shown them, the halo should hug the diamond with no gaps.

and the prongs....are definitely VERY visible...it's like a trail of little dots outside the halo...would not have passed the test if i were you...

hopefully they can fix it for you.

Your ring is not a good likeness to the photos provided. I would ask for a full refund and go elsewhere, clearly your jeweler can't deliver.

Hmm. I would be very very upset. I think it's time to find a new jeweler.
Hopefully you can get a refund? Then go with a PS recommended bench instead. The other posters have listed some great options.

I'm sorry about your ring :((

I am so sorry you are not happy with your ring. If the ring can not be returned is there a way to fix that gap? Perhaps with another row of diamonds? Is your diamond very deep that all of that space was needed?

My halo has an airline gap, I do believe this a a very visible gap. I would be very upset if my ring came back like that.

That airline would be a problem for me. Apart from that it is beautiful albeit not quite a delicate as you inspiration photo

Can you get them to fix it?

I'm sorry it turned out this way. The ring is nothing like you envisioned and I think you are owed a refund. The setting is not delicate and more importantly it's not what you asked for and I don't think this jeweler can make it right because if he could he would have first time around.

Best case is for you to get a refund and find a PS vendor (Victor Canera, Mark of ERD, Steven Kirsch would be my top recommendations) who can make the setting of your dreams for your gorgeous diamond.

Good luck!

I liked it until I saw the gap!

Hi again everyone,
I'm really sorry I should have added that the stone has not yet been set in the setting which is why there is such a big gap.
I own a jewelry store & have my own employee set the stone. This is from a custom mounting vendor that we have used in the past but this job in my eyes came back completely unacceptable when compared to the inspiration photos I sent the designer along with the very specific request of no metal/prongs to be visible. This company sent the ring to me without sending any CAD or mold images which we agreed would be sent to me before I approved production & used the wrong metal when I asked for 14kt and they sent me the setting in Platinum. A total mess-up from every angle/respect and a complete stress headache for someone who is 8 months pregnant and just wanting her ring before the baby arrives :(
