Well, having an unheated Burmese Ruby of similar shape, colour tone and carat9CF279A2-779F-484F-8F4F-A3B082A357C8.jpeg I wondered what it might be worth.
i spotted this one, a fraction heavier, but very similar.
Hmmm, when you have to contact them for a price you know it’s going to be expensive but !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go on, have a guess what you think the retail price here in Australia is for this unheated Burmese Ruby.
Sorry no prize, but youre welcome to sit with me with your mouth agape.
Holy Moly.

Given your dangling jaw.. 6-digits/ct?

20,000-50,000 ;))

$75,000
and I mean it’s “small” it’s a mere 7mm x 5.5 mm

Wow! Puts what you found in the cardboard box in a whole ‘nother tax bracket!!o_O:kiss2:

I mean, $75,000 is totally absurd. maybe, just maybe $10,000 a carat tops! That’s about $7,000 US.3AB9CC7F-1644-4A68-9B18-5962DF36CB25.jpeg
It’s not, in my opinion, the best tone but mine faces up larger at 8 x 6 mm ish.

There is some insane pricing for rubies, sapphires and even stuff like spinels. Heck I've even seen tourmaline being hocked off at ridiculous prices (this one baffles me especially when it's just blue green tourmaline).

Just because somebody lists a gem at a sky high price, doesn't mean it'll sell at that price. Smart buyers spending that kind of money would compare several stones available in that price range, and I suspect they'd be able to find better rubies given the price asked.

Here in Australia our options for vendors selling unheated Burmese rubies is very limited unfortunately. The vendor is highly reputable and well regarded but they seem to be using their market position a little too strongly. Their jade (it’s Mays btw) and even their sapphires seem reasonable but the rubies - whoa.

But free shipping!!!!!
