You''re right; I didn''t see it! And, I''m just back from vacation, so I have been absentee from PS for about a week.

Actually, I''ve shared a lot over the last year about who I am, and you can probably get a real sense of that if you read some (non-political) posts of mine, but here''s some basic info:

I''m one of the older posters at 49.

I was married for the very first time last October at 48! (I''ve been engaged a couple of other times; they were not THE GUY though.) The DH and I knew each other many, many years before walking down the aisle. We are Episcopalian (by way of other denominations), and farily conservative in our political leanings.

I really consider myself to be an Independent in the political sense. I often vote for Democrats, and will vote on Tuesday for a friend of mine running for our State Representative as a Democrat.

I am the Business/Office manager of a new car dealership; I''ve worked for this company in four of their dealerships over the last 30 years. I took a 15 year break working for an appliance dealer, learning that business from the bottom up, becoming a member of their corporate board and their business manager in the process.

Neither DH nor I have any children; we thought it best to be married first, and at this age we have no plans to start a family. We have a tabby named Emma, who is getting a little long in the tooth. We live very near a lake, in a tiny little suburb in the country; and have tame deer by the herd hanging out with the folks in our ''burb.

I was born and raised in Normal, Illinois; and moved with my parents, to Texas, in 1978. Been a Central Texan ever since. DH is from Illinois as well, but we did not meet until we had both lived in TX for over fifteen years. So if you ever wonder whether I''m normal or not, remember, I''m a Normalite!

I have a wicked sense of humor, a dry wit, and am prone to some sarcasm. To which you all are saying "you don''t say!". I am reserved, and quiet. Until you know me.

I know religion is usually off-limits, but since I''m guessing there are few Episcopalians here, I was wondering if you''re a cradle Episcopalian (I attended both St. Matt''s and CTK when I was at ISU - very different congregations but very nice people!) or if you found the church later in life. I''m not ignoring your individual posts; I tried responding yesterday and found that I had a hitch in my ability to reply. PS left me an email that I should try again today, so here I am.

bee* asked about travel: I love to immerse myself in the rhythms and cultures of other locales, but hate the process of travel. So it''s a mixed bag for me on travel. She also asked about books: love them, can''t live without them, and will never have enough bookshelves (or books). My favorite books are mysteries; also love biographies, especially former presidents, and anyone famous circa WWII. I''m not much of a celeb buff, but I love the books about the old Hollywood and its stars. (I''m also a huge fan of Turner Classic Movie channel.) And I seem to have a growing collection of travel essays, and cookbooks.

Growing up in Normal was different in my day than it would be today. I was lucky to be a child of the sixties and a teenager of the seventies. There was a small town feel to the place; kids were perfectly safe walking or riding bikes anywhere, doors were usually unlocked, and everyone knew their neighbors. My mom''s family had always lived in Bloomington/Normal, and so our Thanksgivings and Christmases were very ''Norman Rockwell''. I know; it''s so corny.

We were blessed, truly; and we''ve never taken that for granted.

We have franchises in Honda, Subaru, Suzuki, and Ford. We have owned, in the past, a Toyota franchise and an Oldsmobile/GMC franchise.

DH owns a Honda, bought from us. I get a demo (Honda, yeah!!) that gets replaced every year.

My dad and sister both drive Hondas, purchased from our franchise, too.

Okay, not in any particular order:

Old Hollywood: Bogie and Bacall, Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, Katherine Hepburn, Gene Tierney, Norma Shearer, Doris Day and Rock Hudson, Audrey Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Grace Kelly, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Just to name a few.

Travel essays: Niall Williams and Christine Breen are a married couple who left New York to settle in Ireland, in her ancestral home. Four books by them about moving to, living in, and raising their family in County Clare. He''s a Dubliner, she''s an American. Also, On Rue Tatin, food editor and cookbook author Susan Loomis and her husband move to France and open a cooking school. On Mexican Time by Tony Cohan about their move to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Outside of my religious faith, which is what drives the way I live my life, I think it is important to remember that common courtesy is paramount to a civilized society. I mean by that . . . do not disregard your fellow man; do not act like you are better or more important; do not forget your manners in social situations (please, thank you, etc.); do not behave as though every public building is your house and it''s okay to mess it up; do not litter; do not cut in line; do not let the door slam shut in the face of the person directly behind you; always be solicitious to the elderly or infirm; do not take out your frustration on an employee who doesn''t make the rules but must enforce them; remember to tip, even at Starbucks. There is more, of course, but you get the idea. Frankly, we would all do well to be a Skippy or SDL -- they are the icons we should aspire to.
