Who HollyS, come tell us about yourself!!!!

Hi Holly! I don''t post here much, but I do read through the threads in each section almost every day. I wanted to drop in and tell you that I really enjoy reading your thoughtful posts!
Thanks; I appreciate that. What I try to be, always, is honest. My personal integrity is more important than saying what someone wants to hear. I can understand why that might not always be popular. Oddly enough, the people who dislike that ''personality trait'' in me, are exactly the people I respect for taking their own stand. I find it amazing that they don''t recognize a bit of themselves in me; I see me in them. Oh, well.

Hi Holly - Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? With lots of leftovers??

No leftovers for us. We went to the country inn where we hosted our rehearsal dinner and had Thanksgiving dinner there. It was just us this year; the rest of my family was scattered, and DH's family is a 3 1/2 hr drive away.

The plus of going out to the inn was not having to get up early to clean, cook, and clean up afterward! Very relaxing!

What about you?

Holly, we did the same thing this year! It was just the two of us and we couldn''t be bothered to cook the entire dinner, so we went out, then came home and watched the American President. It was brilliant!

You''re a great addition to this forum, even if we don''t always see eye to eye on politics. Thanks for not being afraid to be yourself!

Aw Holly, I appreciate you! (Sort of!

) Plus ever since I heard you voted for HIllary I can't help but have a special place in my heart for you, even when you're being a little mean!
9.gif
I'm a lil' mean myself so I don't mind...I can take it! And I actually agree with almost all of your posts outside of ATW!

Sometimes, I think we forget on PS that the dynamics aren''t really all that different here than they are in our own family or circle of friends. Do we always agree, on every issue, with family? With friends? I''d bet the answer, for everyone, is no. I''d also bet that sometimes our arguments with them are loud, long, and without a clear winner -- just like PS! But we find enough common ground to make those relationships work. It''s not insincere to say that we can appreciate each other, regardless of our differences. You''re a smart cookie, a snappy poster with a quick wit, and I''ve seen you be a caring person to others when they need help or compassion. Just ''cause our politics are different, that doesn''t mean I can''t see your good side!

Oh, and I prefer to think of myself as ''blunt'', not ''mean''.
9.gif
Maybe I''m just a bit crotchety; I am kinda old, you know.
3.gif

It was just me and my DH as well. I made......a ham (I cannot cook turkey for the life of me), a pumpkin pie, an apple pie, greenbean casserole, stuffing, candied yams, cookies, and cranberry sauce.
For the two of us.
Needless to say we have a lot of leftovers. But that is because I refuse to not have all of my favorite sides!

Very true about the family analogy-I am surrounded by Republicans in my own family so I''ve been known to have a few long, drawn out arguments with them. But I like to think I''m always the clear winner in those!

And I do like crotchety. Can I use that for myself even though I''m only 27? I''m basically a cranky old lady!

Hi Holly! Wanted to wish you a happy thanksgiving, I realized I never made it back to this thread. Great movie list, btw!

Hey, hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful, too. It seems you and I have been on different threads lately; haven''t posted with you in a while. How are things?

Hellooo!

Yeah I definitely stepped out of ATW and honestly most of PS lately. I spent a bit of time in hangout and BWW still..but overall just been taking a bit of a break.

Things have been going pretty well with me, just so crazy busy with school, my job, and wedding planning!! What about you?

The downturn in the economy is NOT good for the car business, to say the least. My office staff was intact, until somebody spent more time off work than on (one of those people with constant ''issues''), and the owners decided that if we can work without her, we don''t need her. So now I get to work two Saturdays a month; gotta leave in about 40 minutes. And dang, if it isn''t a good day to pull the covers over my head -- nasty, chilly, and damp. Bleh!

This gal was also my ''late'' person, so now that I''m covering for her, I get to be the one who closes at 7PM. And I live 45 minutes away. I get home about 8:15 each night. That really takes a bite out of your free time.

It''s been too long since DH and I had some time for fun stuff -- except for our few days in San Antonio in October.

Okay, enough whining from me. At least I have a job. And DH''s is totally secure. So we''re all right.

Holly I am sorry to hear all of that about your work..it sounds stressful and tiring to say the least.
14.gif
Hopefully things will get better soon and they can hire someone else to close and whatnot..getting home late is miserable in my opinion! It''s depressing to leave work and it already be so late and dark..by the time you get home and eat dinner it''s time for bed. Blegh! Anyway, hope you got some rest today. Do you do a lot of decorating at Christmas time or anything like that? I am trying to find the time to finish mine up before I go home..I want to be able to enjoy my decorations at the school apt a bit before I leave.

Hi Sarah,

I got a little of the Christmas stuff out today. I collect old-fashioned looking Santa Clauses, St. Nick''s, Father Christmas figures and art. I stumbled upon two ceramic figures at Pier 1, which I combined with a folk-art painting of a ''woodland'' Santa, and some really tiny miniature resin figures from MidWest of Cannon Falls. I like the ''European'' looking Santas, rather than the tubby guy in the red suit. I put all of that on the mantel with some hurricane lamp candles.

I''ll put out a really cool and unusual ceramic nativity set I got from Hobby Lobby several years ago. We''re going to go with the smaller potted tree again this year, and try very hard not to kill it before we can get it planted in the yard. I got two electric window candles for our living room windows. And I''m at a complete loss as to where my outdoor wreath and my indoor wreath are.
33.gif
I could have sworn I used them last year. Hmmmm.....

Except for some more candles, and maybe some spicy scented potpourri (sp?), and hanging our stockings, I think that will just about do it for us. Oh, yeah, we do have a small tree with lights we put out beside our front door. I''m kind of a minimalist, rather than an over-the-top decorator.

I think your decorations sound great! As it stands we just have our tree, tree skirt (does that count, too?), a porcelain angel that lights up, this cute little snowman I have, and 2 placemats out. Not exactly superb decorating, lol.
2.gif
I have a really pretty mercury glass tree, but alas I left it at home so no way to get it before I leave for winter break.
14.gif
Anyway, how is working going any relief or still pretty tiring/rough? Just thought I''d hop by and say hello!
35.gif

Hi HollyS - We may have to agree to disagree on many issues, but I just want to say I enjoy your sense of humor, sarcasm and wit. (We may have more in common than I thought

We probably do! I loved the Hokey-Pokey joke!

Personally, I like everyone on PS -- sometimes for the very things that annoy me about them, too! Like Deco''s rapier wit . . . I only hate it when she zings me!
9.gif
Even if I deserve it.

We get worked up on ATW about certain subjects, just like any ''family'' does. It''s perfectly normal NOT to agree with everyone. I know people wonder how I can be sarcastic on one post to them, and commiserate with them on another post, but really, isn''t that how we treat those we know and trust as friends? Is everybody always nice? I''d rather be real than sweet. You''ve always been real in your comments, thank you; and I have a healthy respect for others (MoonWater, Karen, Ellen, Deco, Thing2
3.gif
) on PS who never seem to lack the ''real gene'' either!

Geez, I missed this one. Sorry! Not cleaning up is always a treat. We were at my grandmas, and she has to literally JUMP out of her chair as soon as she is done eating to clean up. We always try to get her to sit and relax for awhile, but that doesn''t work. Are you going to be with family on Christmas?

Hey, I'm in the car biz, and I still have a job! What do I have to be fussy about, right?
3.gif

We seem to be seeing more floor traffic; that's better than 3-4 weeks ago. It was, right after the election, dead as a ghost town. People need to fix their credit woes, let me tell you. 'Cause nobody, but nobody, is going to get a car loan with a subprime lender these days. There are going to be an awful lot of people driving 5+ yr old vehicles. And the practical, Scotch-Irish thrifty part of me thinks that is great . . . and then I realize where I work!
9.gif

Have a great weekend. I'll be missing in action; we'll be in Dallas, visiting the MIL. I'm so excited.

My dad still lives here, and my younger sister, her husband and their youngest daughter live about 30 minutes away. Her two older daughters will come up from Austin. We will have a Christmas Eve chili supper (traditional in my family), and open gifts to each other. We do small, relatively inexpensive gifts. They head for home about 9pm; then DH, Dad and I go to our church's midnight mass.

DH and I sleep in on Christmas Day, and get up to watch holiday movies in our PJs. It's just us, so we do a simple baked chicken for dinner. I make a mince pie for me, and a pumpkin for him. We open our gifts in the eveing after dinner.

It's all very low key, and we like it that way!

That sounds very nice Holly. Sometimes I think we should do something, just the 2 of us, but its hard because both of our families our within 30 minutes of home, and they both want our presence (presents too?)
2.gif
. We''re really having a hard time trying to split the holidays. I think you two have the right idea!
