I purchased two diamonds from a reputable pricescope vendor. I verified all of the stats on the two diamonds and the vendor gave me links to the ideal scope images that they had taken of the diamond. After receipt of the diamond and upon examining the diamond in the idealscope that I purchased from Gary Holloway the pictures did not match the vendor''s images. In fact my idealscope, showed that the diamond was too deep and it had "good" light return versus the "excellent" light return displayed through the vendor''s images. I believe that my idealscope is correct because through the naked eye it does not exhibit excellent light return (compared to a diamond I purchased previously and that showed "excellent light return" in the ideal scope.

How could this be? I purchased another diamond from a different pricescope vendor and it displayed excellent light return in the holloway idealscope and visually it displays great sparkle.

It may be a mistak, and you were directed to the wrong idealscope images. Have you contacted the vendor in question and discussed the situation?

Most vendors also have a return policy- perhaps you should take advantage of it unless the vendor quickly agrees in writing to extend it while this issue is under discussion.

Many of the pricescope vendors have IdealScope (or similar) pictures linked directly to the diamonds for sale on their website.

Did you have the diamond appraised by one of the better appraisers? Several of them will take and IdealScope (or similar) picture and incorporate it into the apprasial. They also email them to you for your review before the diamond leaves their hands (My set of diamonds went to the appraiser, who would then send them back to the vendor - or send them on to me - depending on their results. I compared appraiser idealscope pictures to vendors supplied pictures before approving the diamonds being shipped to me).

Should it turn out that you were sent the wrong diamond - or directed to the wrong idealscope picture: Then I would return the diamond.

IS images/use is very light dependant.
Did you follow the lighting directions for the IS when using it?

... the pictures did not match the vendor''s images.

How could this be?

Well, the seller could have mixed some things up, your observation may be different in some technical ways... or maybe something else.

Since you have checked other diamonds like this, I''d guess you know your part.

It should be possible to ask an appraiser.

Any chance you could post the seller''s IS picture and show what was different in your IS image? Even if you cannot take a picture though the IS - it could still help to describe things verbally.

For example, pale red overall with no change of pattern might be due to some missmatch of lighting conditions (IMO), but I would have a hard time trying to explain some stryking difference of patterns and new patches of leakage showing where there were none in the original picture... etc. Besides, allot of folk knows these things allot better than I do around here. And they could help.

Just my 0.2, of course. I am sorry to hear about this
