Is one of the friendliest places I have ever been! Went up for DD's 21st BD and everywhere we went she got a little something extra with a candle on it to celebrate. Lovely town, lovely beaches and lovely people! (But too much SNOW!) She is a student at Hope College and the older ladies of the town deliver cakes to the birthday student on the day! AWESOME!

Oh, wow! Did you try Butch''s Dry Dock?

My family's from Grand Haven, just north of Holland on the lake and the whole area is like that - people are very friendly. I think it's because it's such a huge tourist area. I'm glad you and she had such a wonderful time!

Where is Butches Dry Dock? We were on 8th St most of the day. Is it out Lakeshore?

I don't know. I've never been to Holland, but my husband grew up on Lakeshore.

I spent 11 years in Hudsonville, Mi which id 20 minutes away from holland. The dunes up there are awesome if you get a chance to go in the summer. They are all very family, very religious people, most of the people in that area are dutch and pretty friendly. Many of them are stuck in their ways though and hate change, lol. I think that can be where ever you go though.

My entire adopted family is from the Hudsonville/Holland area. If you like to camp, Cran-Hill Ranch is very friendly and fun and is in the area (about 2 hrs away near Big Rapids I beileve)

If it wasnt so cold I'd consider moving back up there and raise my family. Safest area I've ever been in, although Holland isn't as safe as it was when I was growing up.

PS. Hope college is very nice too. The chapel they have is beautiful!

Butch's is on 8th St as well.

Edited to add - Hey RedRose - I lived in the Wyoming/Jenison area for 5 years! You're right about everyone being really religious - it was really strange when we first moved over there because the rest of the state isn't like that at all. Did you know that they've lifted the liquor ban in Hudsonville, Allendale and all of Ottawa County? Beer on Sundays - can you believe it?

holland is a great little town to visit, one of many on the coast :) i really wanted to go to Hope for my undergrad, but they didn''t offer my major

glad you had a good time! and yes, do go back and visit in the summer! (or during the tulip festival!)

My aunt and uncle used to live in Holland, and I have great memories of visiting when I was a kid. We''d go sailing on my uncle''s boat and then jump off and swim to their neighborhood beach. So much fun!

I also remember my aunt apologizing for the hot and humid weather. Coming from the South, it felt like heaven to us.

I also loved visiting them once they moved to southern California, but honestly I think I enjoyed Holland more.

I have lived in Michigan my whole life and have never been to Holland! I think maybe we''ll have to make a trip out there. Perhaps this summer.
