Prior to Covid, I would try to catch Darlene Love's Christmas tour.
"Perfect Gift"
Natalie Hemby
Every year someone posts this song. I think we all learned about it here on Pricescope one year and many of us fell in love with it. I own a 45 rpm record of the song.
have you read Darlene's autobiography ?
and have you seen the doco 20 feet from stardom about backup singers featuring Ms Love
both very good
I actually first learned of her story when she spoke at a work conference. A fan of her music, her story and positive outlook made me a fan of her as a person. (Of course there was SVZ, and Bruce content in her comeback). There was a book signing after and yes, 20 Feet from Stardom is a great documentary about her and other uncredited singers of Phil Spector era).
Not to derail, here is some new Christmas music to share:
AM i allowed to post a rude (ish) one ? or should i wait till boxing day ?
I could use a spoiler
Im thinking pilgrim in the temple of love ? @lilmosun
its my kind fo Christmas music
not because its rude, but because its more melincoly
less jolly
On the same thread as Ave Maria?
This thread had me reminiscing about his Christmas shows in AP...they were so much fun.
(Yes, Darlenes story was sad -- cleaning houses for a living and hearing her song playing on the radio - but one a triumph in the end)

HI:
Oh I have the usuals--many posted here.
Far from traditional, but I love this song.
cheers--Sharon
I am not sure what you meant by "rude", Daisys and Diamonds. I do not think it would be courteous ever to mock someone else's religion (or desire not to have a religion). But between reverential and "rude" there is a lot of ground. I post both traditional music and a song called "The Season's Upon Us" by The Dropkick Murphys about how Christmas is celebrated by their family most years. It is hardly reverent, but it bears a certain resemblance to the reality of some Christmases.
i am super impressed she spoke at your work conference
that doco was very sad in places
i saw it on the big screen
had to wait about 18 months for it to arrive via a doco film festivle
the only time ive ever seen Bruce on the big screen at the actual pictures
but all those older male stars that spoke in that doco i have renewed respect for because of how they respect the work of those girls (and guys) singing back up for them
boo hiss the music of the era that tried to make backup singers obsolite
i particullay enjoyed Darlens's story from her book about her Elvis encounter
and to stay on topic
not the King, but The Boss
