I looked back to see how last year's holiday music thread was started on Pricescope and saw that I had started it and started it with a new version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" by Pentatonix. Pentatonix put out a new Christmas album this year (as they do almost every year). This year's is called, "Pentatonix Christmas Deluxe" and it has two versions of "Hallelujah" on it. One features The String Mob. So...although it is redundant...I am starting this year's holiday music thread with a Pentatonix version of hallelujah, too. One featuring The String Mob. (I did buy the whole CD.)

I hope people will contribute to this thread as they always do. I inevitable discover pieces of music I had not known before. Thank you to everyone!

This song was just released this year. It is by a country singer whom I had never heard of before, but appears to be in the Christian music genre. I like the harmony in the piece.

I loved that, Molly. It took me a while to come back and respond to this thread after listening to the piece because I had to send a link to my niece who is married to an African and also to her family members who are intensely involved in The Rotary Club, which gave the scholarship to the Nigerian student, Babatunde Olatunji, who originally introduced us to Betelehume. I had never heard of that before. I found it awesome. Thank you very much. This music thread introduces me to at least one astounding new piece of music, and very often more, every year!

It would be remiss of me not to wave the Aussie flag, amazing Indigenous singer and actress Jess Mauboy and the second Luke Kennedy I sat next to in a local sushi train (lovely guy) earlier this year when he was starring in a musical in the city I live in....

Thanks, arkie. I looked up Amira Willighagen after listening to her sing. I liked the way she sang, opening her mouth and throat like an opera singer, not the way many popular Broadway singers now do. And she has good range, but she does not have great power. That is why I wondered if she was actually an opera singer. Beautiful voice, exceedingly pure. But someone I would compare more to Joan Baez than to Joan Sutherland at this point in time. I loved the bagpipes. Thank you for sharing that. And The Tenors' piece was great. Wonderful harmony.

Thank you for that. Very cute. I loved the second verse of Luke Kennedy's "O Holy Night" and the ending. That was very different. It really rocked! I keep hearing new things here! Thanks, arkieb!

I think Amira is still only quite young, there are a number of videos of her as a child on Youtube singing with all sorts of famous people. I think you hit the nail on the head there is something about the purity and dare I say it innocence in her voice that is the thing that makes it lovely to listen to.
 
I love this carol, but I do not believe that the rendition by this group has ever been posted here before. Light Of The Stable...

I just discovered the alexrainbirdMusic playlists on YouTube. I love this new single of "Jingle Bells" by Clouds and Thorns.

I'm not sure where Holly is right now, but she promised to show up to participate in the holiday music thread this year. She has said that before Christmas she is always reflective and I wanted to put up at least one song that I had not put into a Pricescope music thread before that was more in the Christian religious/reflective genre than a snappy version of "Jingle Bells" (no matter how much I loved that) to see if I could draw her back here. Both she and I love some of the fifteenth and sixteenth century madrigals! Not that this is one...but at least it is traditional.

I almost posted another version of "The River" this year, missy. It is a really beautiful song. I never heard "Christmas Lights" until this year. It's pretty.Thank you so much for posting!

"Jingle Bells" by SHeDaisy. I really love the way that some artists/groups have rescued "Jingle Bells" from a song that has little redeeming artistic value (in my opinion). I am always intrigued when I hear a version that actually appeals to me. This version has been around for a while, but I wanted to post it in case anyone missed it before or wanted to hear it again!

 
Deb I hope it's OK to share this song. It always makes me laugh and I know it's dark humor but I hope it's OK with you sharing it in your thread...
