Hmmm...What Stone is This??

Garnet? Maybe? I'll take it in to have it determined, but in the mean time, any CS experts on here have an idea? It was a family ring, likely mid-1900s. Pls ignore messy hands...have been re-enameling our bath tub!

It could be anything from Garnet to Ruby to Spinel to Tourmaline, and that is just the comon stones.

No way to tell from a picture. You need a gemologist to test what it is.

You can find them at jewelry store but go to the high end mom and pop botiques as they have the best gemologists and deal with more color than chain stores.
